December 27th - Mr. Atom
The android menace known as Mr. Atom was created by a scientist who hoped the robot would serve mankind. The body was constructed first, and then the scientist charged the robot with radioactive energy. The spark that gave the robot life also endowed it with sentience as well as an evil mind. Calling itself ‘Mister Atom,’ the android went on a wave of destruction believing it should rule the world. It ended up challenging Captain Marvel (Shazam) to a fight to the finish and the good captain was eventually triumphant. Mr. Atom was later reconstituted by Mr. Mind as a member of The Monster Society of Evil. The android has returned to bedevil Shazam’s Champion on many occasions. The villain first appeared in the pages of Captain Marvel Adventures #78 (1947).
