【 Telltale heart 】 ; Kaya & Nephi
For the best partner in crime @mpnephi
Performing at Minx was something that Kaya always looked forward to, from putting on the make-up and costume to fixing her wig, it felt like a mystery brewing on her skin for the audience to solve as she sang and danced the clues away, and that night was no different. After asking Eros so much about it, he'd let her do a rendition of Why Don't You Do Right and she'd prepared tirelessly. She'd seen to the costuming; a dress made of golden starlight, tailored to fit her and only her – sheer enough to see the outline of her body under the fabric, the specks of glimmer covering only what ought to be kept away from prying eyes.
Then, there was the song itself; the melodies starting right after her voice breaks the silence of the awaiting crowd. The lights focus on her and the dress comes alive as she moves, slowly as if soaring in the gilded night sky that was the stage. The weight of the audience's eyes seemed to only fuel the sultriness of her voice that dripped like honey into their minds with every word that leaves her lips; she can feel their eyes on every inch of her body and it's the closest she's been to feeling alive – her heart pounded in its confinements until its beating matched the song perfectly.
Then, in the blurr of the performance, she stepped off the stage, walking towards the seats of those that had consented to interacting with her as she sang; she twirled a man's mustache, messed another one's tie and on the last spot, a young man not much older than her sat with an unreadable expression — the demigoddess leaned over close as the song was coming to an end, her gloves hand reaching to push a few strands of his hair to the side. It was a careless move, for as she gazed into his eyes, her gaze flickered to a mirror directly on the wall behind him.
"Why don't you do right…"
It had only been a few seconds for everyone in the room, but to her, it had been the longest vision she'd seen in a while; the man she recognized as a regular at the bar —and that crept outside did the unthinkable and defiled a woman in the very depths of an alley. It was enough to have her breathless, seemingly looking into the young man's eyes for perhaps a moment too long when the music signaled for her to step back, dragging the last note out while her fingers ghosted over the side of his face.
"... Like some other men do?"
The excitement of performing had her heart threatening to burst out of her chest, while the newly rising fear clouded her eyes from view as she walked back up and out the stage. The show was over and she was left to wonder what would happen now that she'd seen someone's end — little did she know that outside of her haven's safety, danger awaited in the form of a man waiting for her; he'd gotten refused entry for the impurities in his heart, but he waited near the back, hidden from view until the door opened and the sound of footsteps and the scent of her perfume had the madness beating in him lash out.
