When you realize that Alicia probably didn't realize she was granting asylum to a Pokemon whose mere presence causes suffering...
I know the movie paints a touching picture around the two's relationship, but when you remember that Darkrai even being around causes nightmares, it is a sobering thought.
I mean, think about it.
Darkrai is a mythical. He rarely shows his face, especially around humans, and he mostly stays out of sight so much that some doubt he's even real.
Alicia or (anyone really) having an encounter with him was like a one-in-a-million chance, and in broad daylight too.
Putting this all together, Alicia probably didn't even know what the heck kind of Pokemon Darkrai even WAS.
The possibility that she, being a small child, didn't understand the potential danger of him being around gives one a new perspective.
She didn't know he was dangerous, or had a bad reputation.
She just saw an injured Pokemon and knew it needed help and I feel this drives home how much of a sweetheart she was. No wonder Darkrai took to her.
DID she know? The movie doesn't say, but either way, it changes the dynamic either way you look at it.
I feel when she said, "You don't have to leave, you can stay here," it kind of implied that Darkrai might have tried to object or spill the beans, though.
Also, add in the fact that people only began coming around to Darkrai when they saw him take a beating from two deities and sacrifice himself to protect the town...
It kind of tells me that maybe despite that little girl giving him a place to stay, everyone else might not have been too thrilled.
Even Nurse Joy states in the movie that the other Pokemon stay away from him.
Gallade had a hostile response to his presence at the beginning of the movie.
I can imagine the conflicts that probably arose through the years leading up to the events of the movie. Alicia was probably his only friend and had to defend him over and over. And when she died, there was nothing to keep the peace.
And yet, he still protected everyone....🥹
Mickey 17 wants to be a movie about capitalism, disposability, and systems that treat people like they’re replaceable. Mickey dies over and over again, gets reprinted, and is constantly reminded that his life doesn’t really matter. But what fascinated me wasn’t just Mickey’s disposability. It was Nasha. In a genre that loves to sacrifice Black women emotionally, morally, and narratively, Mickey 17 does something rare: it lets the Black girlfriend live, win, and dismantle the system that tried to erase her and the man she loved. This video breaks down how Nasha resists the logic of disposability at every turn, how the film flirts with the “disposable Black girlfriend” trope, and why her survival and rise to power actually matters. We’ll talk about emotional labor, moral authority, sci-fi tropes, and why Nasha is the only character who consistently chooses life.

1 Minute Analysis of Lydia from BeetleJuice
Lydia's statement, "I myself am strange and unusual," reflects her sense of alienation and self-acceptance. From a therapist's perspective, this is a defense mechanism, where she embraces her uniqueness to shield herself from potential judgment. By owning this identity, Lydia finds empowerment in her difference, transforming perceived isolation into self-defined strength.

So I was watching the Underworld series and only just realized that the pretty much the whole premise (especially Rise of the Lycans) is really just a super edgey and grungey Romeo and Juliet.
There are going to be some of you who read this and go "no DUH! You JUST figured that out?" But cut me some slack. The first couple of times I've seen those movies I was convinced that I was 100% straight, what brain power I wasn't using to keep track of the story was trying to figure out why this image was my favorite part of the movies. Now I know I'm gay AF so I was better equipped to analyze the story and not my attraction to hot women in tight black leather.
