The aftermath is just as damning as the attack itself. The official investigative commission found that Mayor Wilson Goode was "grossly negligent," that the deaths of the children constituted "unjustified homicide," and that he "clearly risked the lives" of children in the house. Despite these findings, no city officials were ever criminally charged. The city then rebuilt the destroyed homes with such poor quality construction that residents were forced out again within a decade. In 2021, remains of some of the victims were discovered to still be in the custody of the Penn Museum — and in 2024, more remains believed to be those of 12-year-old Delisha Africa were discovered, nearly 40 years after her death. As one survivor put it — "I've never heard of another case where a government has dropped a bomb on citizens in America. This is not something you can repair back to normal." The MOVE bombing is not ancient history. It is a blueprint for how America treats Black resistance — with bombs, silence, and zero accountability.

36 years ago today, the City of Philadelphia bombed its own citizens. Osage Street was and remains, a predominantly black neighborhood. 11 people died, 5 of them children aged seven to fourteen. All of them were black. In all, 61 homes were destroued, and 250 Philadelphians were left homeless. If you have never heard of the May 13, 1985 MOVE bombing in Philadelphia, I suggest you read up on it. It took the City 35 years to issue a formal apology. No police officer was ever charged in the deaths. It came out this year that as of 2019, an online forensics courses being taught at an Ivy League school was using the bones of one of the children who died, as a 'case study'. The bomb was “loaned” to the police commissioner by the FBI. The ensuing fire burned down a fairly well of black neighborhood in west Philly leaving 250 people homeless. Firefighters were standing by and were told not to put the fires out. Federal jury later ordered Philadelphia to pay 1.5 million dollars to a woman who was the sole survivor of the incident. 61 black homeowners were never compensated for the loss of their homes. I know I’m gonna get shit but I’m proud to be part of the movement in Philadelphia in the late nineties that helped #freemumiaabujamal from #deathrow ✊🏼✊🏿 I learned about the #movebombing very young and it interested me from there. I truly respect the Family of the Officer Daniel Faulkner, who was killed in the line of duty. However, a lot of #activists think there is more to the story and he should at least be able to live to tell it. #DNA and a plethora of other types of science and technology simply didn’t exist and the cold hard fact is many black men were wrongly sentenced to death row. #facts #hurricanecarter Many have been released. Many have won lawsuits. And if you think #blacklivesmatter do a little research on US HISTORY. They haven’t. They still don’t to many people in positions of power. How many people have been executed by WHITE MEN? That lived to have a mug shot? Get a trial? Live? But a black man #ericgarner in the new millennium can literally be put in a choke hold for selling loosies , screaming on camera for help that he can’t breathe and get murdered? Or #TrayvonMartin a kid armed with skillets and a cell phone can’t walk to his dads house without getting killed by a supposed neighborhood watch man who was clearly told to leave him alone can get off for this young mans murder because he claimed self defense? When the reality is most likely the exact opposite? Trayvon was defending his life and got the best of that scum and got killed for it?
