Long exposure
Athletics Kenya Barngâetuny Memorial Mountain Run in Tinderet, Nandi County (in the Rift Valley region of Kenya).
I canât believe my husbandâs camera captured this series of pictures. Todayâs race was a mountain half marathon with 700m elevation. As I was about 1km from the end, my husband and 4.5 year old son were waiting to see me. My boy shouted encouragement to me and then offered me a daisy as I was running past. I waved but had no intention of stopping. But I just couldnât ignore this beautiful gesture so after running a few steps I turned back, got the daisy and the child and off we went. My husband was shouting something but I couldnât make out what. He was shouting that I still had a while to go for the finish and to not take the little one with me. Oh well, just as well we didnât hear him. We ran well for a while till the poor lad said he was tired so I carried him. Once we saw the finish line everyone started cheering for us so he got a second wind and sprinted to the finish. I was 6th lady of the race with an average speed of 5.55/km, time 2.09â. I was 3d up the mountain but was swiftly overtaken on the downhill by 3 other girls. I just could not run fast enough on the rocks, too scared of falling and hurting myself. The views were amazing and Iâm so glad I completed my first serious mountain race. Look forward to some more adventures!!! #mountainrace #mountainrun #3ÎżĎÎľĎκΝξΚοĎδĎĎÎźÎżĎ #runymittos #sundayraceday #runforfun #runathens #rungreece #aclaphamrunneringreece #running #runner #run #runnerslife #instarunners #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity #iloverunning #ilovetorun #runninggirl #worldrunners #runningmum #runthesouthcoastofathens #runvari #athenssouthcoast (at Ymittos)
Blue Ridge Half Marathon: The Remix
With a half marathon early in the year, it kinda threw me off. Normally, I take the weeks before the spring cycle to heal and repair as I prep for the spring goal race. I used to only focus on speed as a goal but this year and this race is a little different.Â
Blue Ridge will be my spring goal race. Not because I am am ambassador for this race, and certainly not for setting a new half marathon PR but because it can test all aspects of my training over the past couple years: endurance, positive self talk and strength. I mean with over 3,000 feet of elevation and 3 mountains, what a better place to test myself. And while it is not what I consider âhomeâ- I feel comfortable there and I spent my college years in the area.Â
Last year, I ran around a 4:30. Given the humidity and being my first time running it, I wasnt upset. This year I would love to take some time off this race and do more running rather than âpower hikingâ.
This year, I plan to make sure I do more hill work (even though nothing compares to the actual Blue Ridge Mountains), make sure I am keeping TRX and heavy resistance in my weekly workouts and not avoiding hills of any size in my regular running routes. I also plan to keep my speedwork up as that is going to continue to be a part of my training all year.Â
To be honest, knowing the task ahead of me, its a little daunting but I had so much fun at last years race. The overall good vibes, happy people and spectacular planning of the race makes me want to do it again. And as we all know, I love a challenge.Â
Roanoke, here I come!Â

Possibly the most amazing run of my life. 10k done on a mountain bike trail at mount Taygetos in Greece. 333m elevation all in the first 5k. I started off a bit after 4pm so I had to make sure I came back down before sunset. I slowly climbed up, all alone, in the shadow of the impressive mountain peaks. What an incredible adventure. I look forward to going back and exploring those mountains a bit more. #trailrun #trailrunning #runningmountains #mountainrunning #mountainrun (at TĂłriza, Lakonia, Greece)
