Motis Reunion Fanfic
- Otis is working under his mums wing, running Sex ed councillor sessions for young people who are struggling to understand themselves. They share episodes on their podcast talking to people about their relationship issues.
- Maeve, having finished the course is still writing but struggles to find motivation to finish a project. She's working in a Cafè in New York, living with her boyfriend in the flat above.
- Events will lead to domestic issues between Maeve & (josh) that leads to Maeve having to leave him. She also knows that her little sister is lost & her adoptive mother needs all the help she can get.
- Maeve knows that this is the right time to move back. She moves back in with her adoptive mother and is going to help in any way either by searching or as moral support. She knows this is a reset, restarting life to find new meanings.
- As fate happens, as Maeve is walking home after stressing out about her sister (visiting her school/friends homes on her own accord), recent events and hopelessness, she turns a corner and she bumps into Otis as he is walking that same direction to his/mums radio studio (his usual path).
- They exchange shooked greetings and awkward hugs, talking like they've never missed a day. They humbly exchange numbers again & ask to catch up. They both realised they've grown older & wiser.
- Time goes by both reluctant to contact each other until Otis finally picks up (on text in their own bedrooms) the courage & mentions how wild it was to meet her again. She replies but mentions that her sisters gone missing. He consoles her & says if she ever needs to talk about it to he she can. She asks to meet up with him & catch up over coffee.
- Otis returns home. Jean asks him about how the podcast session went. He answers neutrally however inquisitively mentions that someone quite special bumped into him along the way. Maeve. Jean is too shocked to speak as Otis mentions they're hopefully gonna catch up soon. Jean wishes him well.
- Maeve and her adoptive mother are still worried about their sister as Maeve is reluctant to tell her about re-meeting Otis let alone going to see him now soon. However, greatly timed, as maeve was plucking up the courage to talk about Otis, the phone rings and its the police saying they have identified their missing sister and she's safe in hospital.
-The mother is pleased yet still upset. She starts rushing to go to the hospital and expects Maeve to come with. They visit and sees their sister still asleep in the hospital bed. The mother is relieved & starts crying. Maeve consoles yet reluctant. Maeve wishes to leave for she is desperate to meet up with Otis. She asks if she can leave as she acts ill. Their mother thinking nothing of it says yes and Maeve texts Otis if she can come over. He says yes.
- Maeve gets to Otis' and knocks the door to their home. Jean answers and is surprised to see her. They hug & small talk into the living room as Otis walks down the stairs. They greet shyly. Jean noticing the tension allows them to go and catch up privately in his room. They don't talk and awkwardly wait until either one starts talking. They interrupt each other & giggle a little.
- Maeve says that her sister was missing but is found now. Then they start talking about what they've been up to in a more directly manner. Otis plucks up the courage to say he missed her. They start off tense & distant until their eyes magnetised to each other. Maeve whispers I've missed you so much as she sinks into accepting a kiss Otis was anticipating to give.
Sex Education should've been a symbolic piece of media where the main protagonist served as a looking glass into the lives of other characters for us to sympathize with. Because the moment Otis went out with her bully, Maeve and Otis were ruined. The Ruby-Otis surprise connection was brilliant and it was great getting more on her character. But uhh, yeah- it eliminated Motis as an option and buried Otis as a character.

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Maeve’s eyes slowly fluttered open, and she blinked slowly, momentarily confused as she took in her surroundings before recognizing she must have fallen asleep on the couch. There was a small puddle of drool on her hand that laid on Otis’ chest, her body heavy and warm pressed up against his.
They’d just gotten back from Moordale earlier that afternoon, after spending just over a week there for the holidays. It was as if time slowed down while they were away, a harsh juxtaposition to how time felt here, where she’d blink and entire weeks would pass. Here, it felt like there weren’t enough minutes in the day, that she’d give and give and give, until she was exhausted, aching fingers and a sore back, climbing into bed just to do it again the following day. Old habits die hard and all.
Here, it felt like she was torn between letting work consume her; a wildfire with no end in sight, or slowing down, melting into this new chapter with Otis, letting herself be cared for in a way she’d never had before. She shivered at the thought, hating that part of her that couldn’t just fully let go. Hating that she already knew, but didn’t want to admit, she had dreams spread under his feet now too; terrified he wouldn’t tread lightly enough.
He shifted slightly at the movement and she propped her head up on his chest, looking up at his face, tracing a finger over his jaw. She loved him so much it felt like her heart was crawling its way out of her chest, trying to get closer to him. Why couldn’t she just be better at fucking showing it?
Unable to resist the urge, she wiggled further up his body, kissing the skin where her fingers had just been. Gradually, his eyes flickered open, his blue eyes meeting hers, and time felt like it stopped for a split second, his face relaxing with recognition, and she wondered if they’d search and find themselves like this in every lifetime.
She’d like to think they would.
She thinks lots of things and then nothing at all, when he smiled at her, his eyes softening and crinkling in the corners.
“Hi.”
Her own lips quirked upwards. “Hi.”
“Were you watching me sleep or something?” he asked through heavy eyelids.
“No,” she shook her head. Maybe. She knew the way she was looking at him probably told a different story, but she couldn’t help herself.
He raised his eyebrows in question, or disbelief, or some combination of the two. “Writing poetry in your head about me?”
She breathed a laugh. “Something about the bright incipience of love, still promising to solve, and satisfy, and set unchangeably in order.”
Otis looked thoughtful for a moment before he said, “that’s definitely not you. Far too optimistic.”
“Phillip Larkin. It’s actually kind of a sad poem, you know.”

#20 Sex Education
Plot: Otis's school is really bad at sexual education and something needs to be done. Together with his classmate Maeve he sets up a secret sex therapy clinic in the old bathrooms at school. Maeve brings in the clients while Otis takes on the role of therapist, with help of the knowledge he aquired over the years, being the son of a sex therapist. This leads to more than they could've ever imagined, with rebellious acts, complicated love stories and tested friendships, as the students learn more and more about hormons and their bodies. And Maeve and Otis might be more than just business companions.
Years: 2019-2023
Seasons: 4
My story: When this arrived it was the talk of the town amongst my friends. This raw, blunt and funny series was unlike anything we'd seen before and something the world desperately needed. I like how it shows many different aspects of bodies, feelings, teenage drama and sexuality, in a way that few others have.
Teachable moments: Sex Ed is important and everyone have the right to receive it! And it needs to be fact based, diverse and open minded.
Best character: Aimee Gibbs is as funny as she's important for the story at Moordale. She sees no reason to not be yourself and say what you think, even though people may find you stupid. The people who love will love you even more. Still, her big heart might sometimes be too big for her own good. And not the least, she does the most inspiring journey to sexual awakening.
Best episode: "Episode 6" (S4E6). This episode destroyed me completely and it took me weeks to recover. Still, it might be one of the most important episodes of a series ever made.
Best quote: "Last week, I didn't do a s*** for five days; then, when I finally did do a poo, it was like my bum had this gigantic orgasm. Oh, it was great." (Aimee)
Fun fact: Asa Butterfield, that plays Otis, does not only have a therapist-mum on screen - his real mother is also a therapist and could actually teach him a thing or two for his role.
