Mothman in the Moon
Here is my interpretation of Mothman! Mothman is a creature (or man?) first spotted in West Virginia and having some links to UFOs. It has been described to be a bird-like creature with red eyes. I decided to run with the idea of Mothman having bird wings by giving it two sets of magpie wings. Also, I just learnt this week is #mothweek ! So posting this art piece was kind of good timing since I like drawing moth characters?!
This week is National Moth Week, a global citizen science initiative. We have so many illustrations of gorgeous moths in our books that we decided to share them throughout the week. We hope the mottephobes can overcome their fear and learn to love our winged friends as much as we do. You too can be a scientist and sketch or photograph the moths in your own back yard, just leave a light on and they will come.

This illustration of moths is from Diderot’s Encyclopédie ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences des arts et des métiers, 1751-1780.
