It’s just a matter of time. It’s just a matter of time.
So Hope had told herself ever since casting the spell intended to return her parents and her uncle to the land of the living. Part of her had wanted to do nothing but sit on a bench in the center of town and wait for them to appear, confident in her belief that what she’d done had worked. But after her first fourteen hours on the bench she’d been forced to admit to herself that it might not be quick. She still had a life that needed to be lived - classes, homework, all of that - because if she dropped completely out of her life someone would notice. And then someone would start asking questions. And it wasn’t the time yet for people to ask questions. Not before she was certain.
It would have been easier if she had some precedent, or some understanding of just how the spell would work. But nothing like it had ever been done before, and adding in the power she’d gained from the Hollow had only made things all the more unpredictable. So the timeline, how long it would take to have an effect, was nothing but a mystery. Which was why she was sitting in the Grill on a Saturday afternoon, burger in hand, when the door opened and she looked up to see who’d joined the lunch crowd.
