January 26, 2026: "Sycamore Leaves"
Let me just start off by saying that Moselle and their music mean so much to me. I have yet to dislike one of their releases and today's song might be my personal favorite of all of their songs. Moselle grew up in the Ozarks of Arkansas, but to me, their music feels like West Coast grunge music that you make in your friend's garage on weekends during the summer. It's a very specific feeling that doesn't quite make sense to put into words but it makes for great music. Their songwriting is exceptional, too; they combine raw metaphors with everyday imagery and idioms (this song utilizes the neologism, "drink the Kool-Aid," for instance) in a way that really works. I love the richness of their lower register voice in this song as well and how it suits the sound of the guitar. If you're looking for a small artist to support before they hit more mainstream success, look no further.
