While he might not remember the exact moment he fell in love he does remember the very moment that he realized it. During the first few weeks after moving into the dorms Sero had made it clear to everyone that his room had an open door policy. If the door was unlocked you could just waltz right in. Some people used the open door policy as a way to escape from the loud atmosphere class 1A tended to have. Others used it when they were craving some sort of individual interaction. Whether that be coming to him to talk and vent or coming to sit in his room and read a book or do homework while both parties just occupied the space. 

It was one of the rare weekends when everything seemed slow. A much needed change of pace to the constant chaos that circled the hero course kids. He had been sitting looking over his hero costume design as the deadline for changes started to approach. He didn’t have any big changes for his costume in mind but it wouldn’t hurt to give his gear and stuff a once over to see where improvements could be made. That’s when you had entered his room and flopped down on his bed. Face staring up at the ceiling. This was in routine for the two of you. After getting used to the chaos of 1A uneventful days like this felt more boring than relaxing for you. So you’d be left to your own devices for a while but always found yourself in Sero’s room somehow. 

“Serooooooo” you called out in a bored tone turning your head to gaze at his lanky frame.

“Yes y/n?” He said as he continued looking at the sketches in front of him.

“Let’s go do something. It’s soo boring starting in the dorms all day.”

He spun around in his chair to face you. “Well what do you have in mind?”

“I don’t know, let's go to the mall or something. Oh! I know there’s this plant nursery on the main street with all the cafe’s and stuff. Let’s go there! I’ve been meaning to pick up some new plant babies.”

“Okay sure. What you thinking about getting?” He asked 

“I don't know. You're the dorms resident plant dad, that's why I wanted to bring you with me. You mentioned pothos or something like that but I guess it'll just depend on what the nursery has.”

That’s how he had ended up standing in the backroom greenhouse of a plant nursery. The sun just starting to dip down in the sky and paint the greenhouse room in shades of yellow and orange.  Sero couldn’t help but stare at you. The lighting of the soon setting sun left you looking absolutely ethereal and for a second he felt like he could look at you standing there amongst the greenery and foliage for eternity. He wasn’t being the most inconspicuous. So it didn’t really surprise him when you caught him staring, but you don't question him. You quirk your brow and then flash him a smile, and that is the moment he realizes that he loves you. Heat racing up the back of his neck to paint his cheeks red as he averts his gaze to anywhere else in the room. Leaving you to deliberate between two nearly identical pothos plants. Moving to the other side of the room to look at the succulents and mull over the sudden realization of his feeling for you. 

But now that left him with a bunch of options and he doesn't know what to do. He could sit with those feelings. Staying close to you as a friend, continuing to silently yearn for you. Waiting patiently for his feelings to fade away, but that could take weeks or months and be left with the lingering thoughts of what could have been. Watching you fall in love with someone else. He could do “the manly thing” as Kirishima would say, and tell you his feelings hoping that you’d maybe return his feelings. But, he’d be risking losing you as a friend and he wasn’t sure if he could do that. In such a short time you had somehow managed to cement yourself in his life.

It takes him almost a month of deliberation. But, when he finally makes up his mind he heads to your room. One hand enclosed around the handles of a bag filled with your favorite snacks, a heart full of love and a head filled with hope that you might just return his feelings.

So when Sakusa had gone to your apartment and seen the abysmal products that made up your “skincare routine” he couldn’t help but scrutinize every product. This was not going to do. So the next time you had a day off after pointing out how bad your products were in his blunt way he dragged you out to go shopping. He had waited till later in the day in hopes that there would be less of a crowd and dragged you to his favorite skincare store.  You couldn’t help but laugh at the serious expression he held as he scrutinized the products on the shelf. You didn’t expect him to know as much about skin care as he did. Sure he had gorgeously flawless skin, but you had always assumed that it was just good genetics and the fact that he ate fairly decently. But, you honestly should have expected this. He was so diligent at staying clean and taking care of himself that it wasn’t unbelievable to assume he also took care of his skin. But the sheer amount of products he was putting into the basket was mind numbing. Did you really need all of that to have clear skin? You pulled out two bottles from the basket and looked at them incredulously.

“Kyoomi I don’t even know what a toner or serum is. Do I really need them?” You asked looking at him as he picked up yet another jar containing something. 

“Yes you do need them. The toner will balance the PH of your skin and the serum will promote anti-aging so you don’t get premature wrinkles.”

“Okay, but I’m definitely gonna forget to use this stuff just so you know”

“It’s fine. I’ll text you and remind you”

“Wait. Can you just facetime me? That way we can do the routines together. Plus, that way you can make sure I’m doing it right. Cuz if Imma be honest..” You said placing the products back into the basket. “I have absolutely zero idea how to use anything outside of like cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. 

“Fine we can do that if that means you’ll keep up the routine.” He said and you can hear the smile in his voice. 

He keeps his promise and facetimes you everyday an hour or two before bed. But even when the two of you are done you both stay on facetime till it’s time to go to sleep (although occasionally the two of you fall asleep on facetime together). Especially when Sakusa is in another prefecture for a training camp or a long series of away games. It’s this nightly act of doing your skincare routines together that allows for the two of you to feel close even when there are miles separating the two of you.

You make me wanna be a better person. You make me want to be the best person I can be. When training gets too hard and I feel like giving up I just remember what I’m doing it for. I’m doing it so I can protect you and keep you safe. I’m doing it to make you proud because you cheering me on is the sweetest sound in the world to me.

If I’m being honest you caught my eye the very first time we met. There was something about you that just made you stand out amongst everyone else. You probably don’t remember. But it was at that hero gala a few years ago. Your hair was done in these long Senegalese twists (I think that’s what you call them. I’m still learning the names for all your different hairstyles). You wore that long black designer dress with a slit up the side. You looked absolutely ethereal, like some goddess that had decided to just bless us mortals with your presents. The way the lights reflected off of your dark skin just left me in awe. I was too scared to even talk to you that night. I’d already been a pro hero for two years at that point but suddenly I was no longer Pro-hero Deku. Instead I was back to being the same shy old Izuku Midoriya who couldn't even look girls in the eyes that I was in high school. 

I didn’t get around to actually talking to you and introducing myself to you till  a few months later when you joined the same hero agency I was at. I was such a bumbling mess. But you laughed at one of my stupid jokes and I knew from that very moment that I was in love. 

Anyways I’m rambling. But, I guess at this point you’re used to my rambling, or at least I hope you are. I wrote all of this to say that even after all of these years of loving you and being with you, I am still left speechless. I am so undoubtedly enamored and in love with you, and I can only hope to spend the rest of my life with you.

 Kyotani always woke up before you to get in a morning workout in the apartment gym. By the time he’d return for a shower you’d have already woken up. Making your way into the kitchen to make breakfast and coffee for the two of you. You’d greet him with a yawn and a soft good morning. He’d greet you with a soft grunt and by rubbing his hand against the top of your head.

Saturdays had managed to become either impromptu movie nights or impromptu study nights with Tsukishima and Koganegawa. The dynamic between the three players of the Sendai Frogs was something that you would have been okay just observing from a distance. Staying in your room while Kyotani had his friends over. But, in his own words he had said “Don’t be a dumb ass. It’s your house to, I’m not gonna force you to stay in your room the whole time while these two idiots are over”. That didn’t really leave you with any room to argue. So slowly you had started to join the three volleyball players as they  spent time together. It was interesting seeing Kentaro making friends and you couldn’t help but occasionally smile as you watched them interact.

Kyotani didn’t seem to mind the occasional 3am baking that would occur in the kitchen on days when you were particularly stressed. If he didn’t have practice the next day, or you happened to be making one of his favorites he’d even stay up with you and keep you company. He’d sit up on one of the clean kitchen counters as you listened to music and furiously mixed together the ingredients in an attempt to take out your own frustrations. By the time you had placed your latest attempt at stress release into the oven your thoughts were organized enough to talk and hold conversations. Usually the two of you would talk while you washed up whatever dishes you had dirtied up. Although Kyotani often tended to come off as mean or standoffish he always seemed to know what you needed to hear, especially when it was the last thing you wanted to hear. After that the two of you would often just talk while eating whatever you had made. Kyotani most of the time opting to eat directly out of the dish. 

 Being roommates with Kyotani Kentaro wasn’t so bad. At least it wasn’t so bad until you realized that you might enjoy domestic life with your friend more than you’d like to admit.

You put your pen down and closed your book to greet the customer with your best customer service smile. “Welcome to the Buttercup Bakery! How may I help you.” You chimed looking at the man who had entered the shop. He was tall, and his thick eyebrows framed his face wonderfully. His black hair messy as he carded his fingers through it. He wore a black button up and a pair of matching black jeans. 

“Do you have anything with peanut butter?” He questioned as he looked at all of the cakes in the glass display case. 

“We have a triple peanut butter cake.” You said moving from the register to behind the glass display. 

“Perfect. She absolutely despises peanut butter” He said the smile on his face audible in his voice. You couldn’t help but quirk up your brow at his statement. That was...peculiar to say the least. But you just donned a pair of gloves and grabbed the cake.

“Can you write something on it for me?”

“Sure, no problem. What did you have in mind?” 

“Can you write “Fuck off” on it for me? Make it really pretty too while you're at it. Just over the top girly. Hearts and the whole nine yards.” He said a smirk replacing the lazy smile he had. 

“I..I guess  I can do that for you. Although if you don’t mind me asking. What exactly is the cake for?” You knew better than to ask questions like that. But, it wasn’t every day that someone comes in with as unusual of a request as the man in front of you. Plus, if you didn’t ask you knew that the question would eat away at you. 

“My girlfriend cheated on me last week and today's her birthday. So I’m getting a cake to break up with her.” He said with a sly look on his face. You couldn’t suppress the soft chuckle that passed your lips.  

“Say no more. Give me ten minutes and I promise I'll make it the prettiest cake you’ve ever seen.” You said moving the cake to the decorating station and getting to work. 

When the man looked at the cake packaged in the ribbon tied box it was obvious to him that you had indeed made good on your promise. You had added a chocolate glaze to the top of the cake and he was sure that in his 23 years of life he had never seen the words “fuck off” written as elegantly as you had put them on the cake. You also did not fail to add girly details. Icing hearts, chocolate covered strawberries and pretty whipped cream spiraled dolops also adorned the cake framing the words. He happily paid for the cake and left the bakery. Leaving you with an interesting story for your friends.

You didn’t expect for the same black haired stranger to show back up in your shop a week later. The same lazy smile adorning his handsome features. You couldn’t help your own smile as you welcomed him into the shop.

“Not here for another breakup cake are you?”

“Actually, no. Here for some cupcakes instead.” He said looking at the display.

You dawned your gloves and stood behind the display case. “Anything in particular you lookin’ for?”

“Nope. Why don’t you just give me 2 of your favorite flavors. You probably know better than me anyways.”

“Sure thing” You said, grabbing one of the containers designed to hold 2 cupcakes. You picked out a s'mores brownie cupcake and a purple ube cupcake. 

“No need to wrap them up. All pretty. I’m planning to share them with that pretty worker who created a breakup cake for me last week” He said with a smirk, and for a minute you had to process the fact that he was talking about you. You couldn’t help but smile.

So you and the man who’s name you learned was Matsukawa shared cupcakes. Talking about how his little breakup cake idea went over and getting to know each other.
