The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) has long been a beneficiary of BikeFlights’ Buck Up For Bikes (BUFB) Program to give back and get more people on bikes, and now there’s another opportunity to help NICA do more. They’ve launched Share the Ride, a year-end fundraising campaign to support their many programs across the country.
“A donation to NICA will support the magic and good that happens daily in NICA leagues,” said Amanda Carey, NICA President.
With core values of fun, inclusivity, equity, respect and community, NICA’s programs enable many young riders to get the opportunity to seek their first adventure on a bike, make it to a starting line, celebrate new friendships, experience joy and have fun.
Through NICA, more than 25,000 student-athletes, 14,000 coaches and countless volunteers across America help create safe spaces for youth to encourage, have fun and build community around cycling.
“Your commitment to youth development allows NICA to continue our philanthropic mission of building strong minds, bodies, character and communities through cycling,” said Carey. “The impact you can have on a NICA life can not be underestimated.”
NICA is welcoming both one-time and recurring, monthly gifts. Those who commit to monthly, recurring gifts will be entered into weekly and grand-prize drawings to receive prizes.
Donate to NICA’s Share the Ride campaign before the end of the year, and remember that you can also donate year-round to NICA, Trips for Kids, Little Bellas and the International Mountain Bike Association through BikeFlights’ Buck Up For Bikes program by contributing a dollar whenever you book a shipment.

Happy Bike Month: Five Tips For Riding Your Bike More
There’s a lot to love about May here in the northern hemisphere. The weather is more consistently warm in many places, flowers are blooming everywhere after all those April showers and each day brings hours upon hours of daylight. Suddenly, it’s a lot more possible to find warm, sunny, beautiful opportunities to go ride your bike.
At the same time, maybe you’ve noticed the increasing amount of other things vying for your time and attention, especially after so many other activities and responsibilities have restarted in recent months. How can you actually keep riding or get back to riding?
We share five of our favorite tips to help you get motivated to go pump your tires, lube your chain and start pedaling!
Ask an old friend to ride. There’s nothing better than catching up with a longtime cycling buddy while pedaling. And they’ll double as an accountability buddy for helping you get out the door on time.
Invite a new friend to ride. Perhaps the only thing more satisfying than enjoying your own awesome ride is sparking that same joy in someone else. If your new friend is relatively new to the sport, consider how you might encourage them along their own cycling journey.
Ride to work or errands. One way to get in more riding is to do something you were already going to do anyway, but instead of driving, ride a bike. You’ll not only feel more invigorated upon arriving, but you’ll get the added mental and physical health benefit of pedaling away your stress on the way there or back. For those with longer commutes and a lack of time or fitness to pedal both ways, consider driving or taking public transit one way and riding the other. The flip the script and do the opposite the next day.
Leave your bike computer at home. It’s easy to get so focused on your mileage, speed or watts that you spend all of your time looking at your bike computer and none of it looking around. So once a week, just go out and ride without it, or at least take it off your bars and stuff it in a pocket. Yes, your ride still counts even if you don’t actively Strava it, and you may be surprised at what all you notice when you pay attention to your surroundings.
Go explore. We human beings love routines, and we also thrive off novelty, at least occasionally if not more often. Look at a map, and pick a road or trail you’ve never ridden before, and go check out it out. Even if you don’t have any trips planned or have been riding in your local area for years, simply following a regular route backward or coming up with an original way of combining your favorite roads or trails can help you mix it up.
Here at BikeFlights, throughout May, we’re (virtually) riding together with our colleagues to raise money for Trips for Kids through their Save the Earth, Ride a Bike Campaign. Many of us will also be riding with our local bike clubs, friends and family or even taking on local events. A few of us will be training for upcoming bucket list events later in the season, and some of us will just be training for life, but one thing we’ll all be doing is riding for fun.

We’re pleased to renew our support of the BikeFlights Buck Up For Bikes program. Through it, four national non-profit cycling organizations – Trips for Kids, National Interscholastic Cycling Association, Little Bellas and the International Mountain Bike Association – will continue to benefit from our Buck Up For Bikes program in 2022.
“It’s always been important to us at BikeFlights to give back to the sport that has given us so much, and we encourage you to do the same by donating a buck or four whenever you ship with BikeFlights,” said Sue George, Vice President of BikeFlights. “We very much appreciate the efforts of the non-profit organizations in our Buck Up For Bikes program and all that they passionately do to help more kids and adults discover the joys of riding and find more fun places to ride.”
How to Help
It’s easy to help us raise even more money for Buck Up For Bikes every time you ship with BikeFlights.com. Upon checkout, simply 1) Contribute a buck to any of the four beneficiaries; or 2) Contribute a buck to each of the four beneficiaries. We’ll take care of the rest!

New Leagues And Record-Breaking Participation For NICA
2021 has been a stellar year for the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), one of four cycling advocacy organizations that benefits from BikeFlights’ Buck Up For Bikes Program. NICA has not only launched six new leagues this year, but it’s also reaching record participation numbers.
With 30 active leagues in 28 states, NICA has experienced its highest number of participants to date with over 26,000 student-athletes involved in events and over 14,000 volunteer coaches supporting these student-athletes.
“NICA’s popularity and growth across the country can be attributed to the sense of community that is built by our programs,” says NICA President Steve Matous. “When you attend a NICA event - many times it’s evolved to much more than just a race, it’s an entire weekend when families and friends come together to connect, ride bikes, laugh and just enjoy the outdoors.”
Fall is NICA’s busiest season with 20 of its 30 leagues hosting events. And this fall has been especially exciting for NICA as five leagues held their inaugural events in Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and South Carolina. In addition, earlier this year, during the Spring NICA season, the Kansas League hosted its first event.
As NICA welcomes new leagues, it also celebrates 10 seasons of racing for three of existing leagues in 2021. Congratulations to the Texas League, the Minnesota League and the Utah League for 10 years of getting #morekidsonbikes! Currently, the Utah League is NICA’s largest league with over 6,000 student-athletes participating across Utah’s four regions.
NICA is one of four non-profit organizations supported by BikeFlights.com’s Buck Up for Bikes Program. You can donate to NICA and help get more kids on bikes via our Buck Up for Bikes Program every time you book a BikeFlights.com shipment of your bikes, wheels or gear. Simply select the option to donate while you are checking out.

I was so busy that I didn’t take a single picture all day, so I had to steal this one. But what a day!! 178 kids registered and threw down today at the @ohiomtbleague first race at John Bryan! I am blown away by these kids. Huge shoutout to all the volunteers for making today happen! #morekidsonbikes (at John Bryan State Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTLIT9VFU_6/?utm_medium=tumblr
