Remus barely hangs around anymore ; somewhere between the shock of her telling him what’s to come after their summer, and the deadline of its arrival, she finds, he doesn’t come home as often to what they’ve done as their last hurrah... or rather, it was hers and his without his knowledge, until she’d carefully taken their hands into her own as she explained WITHOUT RESERVATION how she would need to leave them all. It’s temporary, she explains, but the look he gives her, it eats away at her from the inside. Who could blame him for his trepidation? After all, they’re left hearing of all those who lost friends, family, and more so far, that the other side is looking for traitors, and a slip up just might mean her life. He’s angry and she knows it, but Marlene can only hope that he’ll forgive her this, that it’s for the war effort, really, and shouldn’t that mean something?
Or maybe she’s trying to MAKE PEACE with what she knows feels like a betrayal of herself. Going back was going to cost her something, and it was more than just their sometimes togetherness. It might mean, she too, could have the potential to flip ; the things that nobody wants to acknowledge, or say, but Remus, oh... he’s too close to her heart for him not to see it, think of it. After all, hadn’t she once been one of theirs? Or was this her own, made up assumptions, her way of looking for reason in the hurt that came instead of a logical place, an emotional one instead. Which is why when he stops by tonight, she hangs at the doorframe, watching him - will he? Won’t he? They talk like they always do, only punctuated when he says-
A relief on her face. It’s just... she just misses him, and yes, this will make the later so much harder, when seeing one another will be an impossibility, but she needs something to sustain herself on. A hope for better, a memory to keep herself warm by when in the midst of the worst company. She needs HIM MOST OF ALL. Arms opening up, she beckons him forward. “So then let’s to bed.”
