Here’s where my ideas get a bit out there. I think Thane is Moonwaterine. It’s a gender linked to the moon and fluidity and can be linked to spirituality. It’s a calm,spiritual, moonlit gender. I think Thane would use xe/xer, moon/moonself and shell/shellself pronouns with people he trusts, but in mixed company presents as he/they.

I think he mainly uses he/him, but if star gets close to you star’ll tell you star prefers star/starself pronouns. For instance Shepherd and Maelon likely knew about star’s preference.
