Flash, Mouldwood Depths - Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Decided to delve into this project again and draw the Spirit Tree in Mouldwood Depths. This one is was the most intimidating one for me, so hopefully now I can draw the rest with no problems.
After listening to the responses I got from my Tears of the Kingdom hate post, as well as watching a few videos on the matter, I'm starting to think this is another Ori situation.
As in, Breath of the Wild had a more engaging and better structured story and lore, much like Ori and the Blind Forest, whereas Tears of the Kingdom's story was more flawed, and more focus was clearly put into the gameplay, much like Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
None of this means Tears of the Kingdom and Will of the Wisps had bad stories though; heck, TOTK made me cry whereas BOTW only made me sad (both Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps made me sob my eyes out). Its just parts of their stories either didn't add up, didn't hit as hard, or both.
Both are also guilty of not wanting to acknowledge their previous titles much, and when said titles are mentioned, it comes off as very reluctant and vague, like the games are ashamed of being sequels. This is probably a big reason why the lore for both games feels inconsistent with a slew of unanswered questions (especially in TOTK's case).
Despite these issues, as well as a few more that I probably haven't mentioned or don't know, I can't bring myself to hate TOTK or Will of the Wisps. Both gameplay experiences were fun and their stories, however problematic and inconsistent they were, had me emotionally hooked from start to finish. Also, both made me cry. Any game or story that gets tears out of me earns points in my book.

When petting becomes squeezing
I'm finally playing this game after purchasing it 7 years ago
I noticed that I never posted my third Ori fanart here, so there you go. ♥ Cute little Ku, during the hearbreaking scene early at the beginning of “The Will of the Wisps”, where the little one stares at the birds taking wing, yearning to fly as well. If you've seen my Kuro artwork, you may notice that I used similar colors to said painting, to create a connection between them. You can find a close-up photo and some work in progress pictures of my painting process if you keep reading. :)
