Although it is far too warm for the season, I managed to go for a proper winter hike on Sunday.
We started our hike at the shore of a water supply dam at 1000 m of altitude, and walked into a shadowy high valley, the Gauertal. Soon we hiked on snow, and had to take care not to collide with skiers or sledgers on their way downhill.
Our planned destination was a mountain chalet, where we had lunch and rested, before we put on snow spikes and hiked back down again.
Hiked distance: 14 km/ 8,7 miles, ⬆️⬇️ 750 m / 2360 ft

I'm currently in a clinic for physical rehabilitation in the heart of the beautiful Montafon area, hoping that the physiotherapists here might find something to help in reducing my back-pain.
During therapy-free time I'm trying to squeeze in some walks in the area, but the first week of my stay the weather god tried to keep me indoors. It was very doomy and gloomy outside.
Just in time for the weekend, the sun decided to grace us with her presence, and so I could go on a extended walk on Saturday afternoon.
The Montafon area is known for its many skiing resorts with garanteed snow for most of the winter. Well, this year is different with January having been unusually warm with rain rather than snow. The few slopes on which one can ski down into the valley have to be maintained with artificial snow, and look rather forlorn in their green-ish surroundings.

Das Bild entstand übrigens im Selvretta Montafon beim Ski fahren auf über 2000 Metern Höhe am Silvester-Tag. Wir hatten traumhafteres Wetter und jede Menge Spaß auf der Piste.
