city target personal reflections
the first thing that i noticed coming upon this building was the intricate detailing in the iron scrolls. the large bay windows also give it urban feel, the reflections of the other buildings in the windows, while also keeping a feel of the older style of architecture. the two balance each other out nicely. i am amazed that a building that is so old is still in such good condition, considering the weather in chicago is not always that friendly.
cultural center personal reflections
personally, i think the domes within the cultural center are gorgeous, the long and tall windows letting in tons of natural light. when trying to capture the pictures, i really wanted to used angles to get the domes light in. i also really thought the natural light gave the building a huge open feel. the zodiac symbols in the ceiling of the tiffany dome are my favorite parts of the building, my heart heavily believing in astrology. there seems to be a geometric feel to the building that brings it all together.

art institute of chicago personal reflections
like the rest of the buildings that we visited, i noticed they used the tall ceiling and greek arches in the chicago stock exchange building. there were also intricate architectural designs in the exchange building. however, it really pulls a focus to the fact that the modern age is very different, the modern wing being very simple and kept impeccably clean. it is a different type of aesthetic. the people of the building come to observe the art in the building, but i think it is often easily overlooked that the people in the building are also art themselves.
millennium park personal reflections
i personally love how the park is set up, each section coming together as a whole and bringing the people of chicago together in one place. i think that the crown fountain is an unusual design, having people spit water out, but i also believe that it is a great way to cool down in the summer and brings people of color issues to light. the cloud gate, also known as the bean to most people, is a great tourist attraction, a good place for social events. overall the park has a great atmosphere, one that is warm and welcoming to all.
cultural center
architects: henry hobson richardson and his successors
neoclassical inspiration evident in the roman arches and greek columns
funded by a 1% tax on all citizens so that it could “truly belong to the people of chicago”
originally used as a library and the grand army of the republic war memorial
the building was threatened to be torn down in the 1970s
today it has exhibitions, music, plays, demonstrations and more
