_ New Logbook Begun _ User: Marshall R. Ebott _ Logbook Name: U.S.O-05A/B (Moldsmal/Moldbygg) _ Logbook Type: Written _ First Updated: 4/25/2123 _ Last Updated: 10/9/2124 _ Displaying Entry
Species Name: Gelatinare (Gelatina gelatus and Gelatina venata) Habitat: The Ruined Catacombs, Waterfall, City of Stone Average Height: A- ~1-2 ft/0.30-0.61 m, B- ~3 ft/0.92 m (fully extended) Average Weight: A- ~7-8 lbs/3.2-3.6 kg, B- Not measured Diet: Salamanders, reptiles, small mammals, carrion Temp. Regulation: Ectothermic Abilities: Projectile conjuration, regeneration Disposition: Wary/Confrontational Threat Level: 2-3
USO-05A: An organism that resembles a mold of translucent slime or gelatin. Color varies depending on the region, with USO-05A in the Ruined Catacombs being bright green and USO-05A from all other regions being various shades of pink. They have no discernable eyes or appendages, only a wide open mouth that leads directly to their stomach and is rimmed by six pointed teeth. Closer inspection of their undersides reveals hundreds of extremely small tube feet that it uses to move around, much like starfish. Unlikely to attack, but may mistake you for food.
USO-05A are a common sight in areas with more moderate temperatures and seem especially prevalent in Waterfall. They are incredibly simple creatures, slowly crawling along in search of dead matter or slow prey to consume. From what I’ve seen, their method of hunting involves either crawling inside a corpse or flattening their bodies enough to slide underneath living prey, then using their teeth to rip off chunks of flesh and digest the creature alive. They have incredible regeneration abilities, with each segmented “section” of their bodies able to grow an entirely new body if cut off from the rest. This is also presumably how they reproduce. The drastic difference in coloration that USO-05A in the Ruined Catacombs display is extremely interesting, but sadly unable to be investigated due to the area becoming inaccessible.
USO-05B: An organism that resembles two USO-05A stacked on top of one another, at least at a glance. Once approached, however, the creature will raise itself to attack, revealing a long wormlike body that can extend up to two feet high and fanning its upper half out into a flower-shaped crest. USO-05B is anatomically similar enough to USO-05A that I’ve elected to label them as a subspecies rather than a separate creature. An extremely aggressive ambush predator; don’t be fooled.
USO-05B is only found in Waterfall, and shares the pink coloration of the USO-05A found in the region. Unlike their evolutionary cousins, however, these creatures are active hunters and will lie in wait to snap at any creature that comes their way, even those several times their size. They share USO-05A’s tendency to digest their prey alive, as well as their regenerative abilities and reproduction method. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve been attacked by one of these creatures, although luckily I’ve never truly been in danger of being consumed by one. Nevertheless, their bites are not pleasant to deal with.
