Trying to create a sketchbook for inktober of the POSITIVE stories of black history has left me more and more disheartened (today is only day 3). The majority of positive stories we have to tell as a culture are modern stories. I’m seeing stories of the black peoples’ firsts being in the late 1800 and in the 1900s, is this because we are an uncivilised peoples? No of course not, but history has left a stain on our culture and we are left with stories of Africans as slaves, savages or just generally less than. So I didn’t know what to draw today...
