DAWTDE mention
On some level, I think D/SFAWTDE is commentary on the technical knowledge Minecraft players have accrued and how that information is shared. Knowledge is so important that it ends up being the main dynamic behind how all three characters interact
- D3rlord represents the experience longtime players accumulate after years spent learning intricacies of the game. He is pragmatic and experimentative in ways that make him really slippery to pin down, which keeps him a step ahead of the King at several points. imo, it is no coincidence that his character defining injury in part 1 is information-based in nature
- The King represents an external observer mimicking what players like D3rlord know without having the personal experience to organically build upon or understand what went behind that knowledge. He possesses a mechanical understanding of tricks like shulker box rendering and redstone doors and can utilize them to form an intentional trail of breadcrumbs, but he gets totally blindsided when the mindset actually responsible for creating those tricks is used against him (IE, the boat glitch in the red dimension)
- Avery contrasts D3rlord and the King by representing the average PVPer /j. He is way in over his head to the point he needs to receive pointers from both of them to proceed. Despite this, he is easily the most emotionally invested person in the story and his gratitude for D3rlord is the only reason the story is publicly known. Prior to Avery's involvement, D3rlord was likely planning to take everything he knew with him instead of sharing it. The only evidence of the King was stored on a private drive with the sole purpose of warning Avery not to investigate further. Without the mentality proposed by Avery's character, tricks like shulker box rendering and redstone doors would not have made it beyond their original creators. If players do not reach out and share their knowledge, that knowledge dies with them
