If Jake had stayed with Jane, Tavros would’ve been broken far beyond what he was by the time Jake left, and likely ended up forced up onto pedestal to act as another puppet for Jane to use.

Harry Anderson Egbert; Witch of Blood, Derse; Harry has a nice, loving household to call his own, however he isn’t all the emotional about things, having seen his father cry too much over the years, and became tired of the emotionality of him. He rebels against his father’s crying habit, and pushes himself away from him, trying to put a barrier between the two of them, despite him craving for a good relationship with John.

it still preached dangerous rhetorics, used the "rapist gay" trope to justify a guy's homophobia, said that not liking homophobes makes you intolerant, said the wlw character was playing the victim...

so many things were wrong it's wasn't perfect at all.

Let me preface this by saying; Don’t be dicks to this person, everyone. I’m just giving a reply, and don’t want anything to come of this otter than this.​

And also, yes the manga isn’t perfect. i know this. But it’s an emotional investment I’ve made over the last however long I’ve been following it, so colour me ecstatic that it ended in a way I was not at all expecting - I had assumed Taichi and Futaba would end up together permanently, to have ti end as all non-BL manga end when it comes to a gay character. With the gay character not having his perfect happy ending, and instead being dumped to the wayside.

1.) Masumi is now confirmed Bi, what's the issue? I don't see one.

2.) It wasn't the 'Rapist Gay' trope, it was the guy being a survivor of child molestation, and not having the proper therapy to deal with it, and thus lashed out at gay people. You can clearly see him being able to think on it further in the manga, and have him work on overcoming it by being friends with Touma.

3.) I don't remember Masumi ever being said as 'playing the victim'. What chapter was it in? Legit it may have become muddled in my head.

4.) Let people enjoy things, and find them emotionally compelling, without shitting on them just because it wasn’t up to your standards. For many, many people, it was an amazing manga, with a wonderful ending, that actually ended with the gay character getting the happiest ending possible. He married the man he fell in love with.

Let me remind you, Ao no Flag was published in Shounen Jump+. It was published. In Shounen. Jump+. If that doesn’t speak a lot of likely how difficult it was to get by editor and publisher censors, I don’t know what does. Yes, gay people are getting more and more freedoms in Japan, but that doesn’t change the fact the country is still very socially disdainful toward them, and a vast majority of gay portrayals in non-BL/GL manga is derogatory, harmful, and disgusting in general. This is especially rampant in the Shounen Genre, and a lot of Weekly Jump titles of the past, and present. The only JUMP! manga to be able to successfully have LGBT+ characters in it, without them being harmful stereotypes, is Hunter x Hunter.

I cannot stress enough how huge Ao no Flag is. How big of a step it is to have a manga that actually explored gay romance, and ended with the gay character actually getting his happy ending with the man he fell in love with when they were kids. This never happens in manga. Ever. Unless its a BL. Which, again, Ao no Flag is NOT a BL.
