Is there any way I could buy a phyiscal copy of the moby dick webcomic so far? It is so beautiful.....
unfortunately no. it's been a long time goal of mine to get it physically printed, but that's not something i've been able to do yet. maybe someday. thank you though.
I am now reading your Moby Dick webcomic and just wanted to say your art is *beautiful*! I've gotten to page 11 so far and have to go to sleep soon, but like, just the first page of the sky was so pretty, and everyone is so expressive!
thank you so much 💖 i'm glad you like it
It's kinda funny, Moby Dick confused me more than Flatland or Le Morte de Arthur. I think it was cuz the narration vs dialogue kept going back and forth from more modern sounding to "thee and thy and thou", my brain couldn't figure out which track to go on lol
i don’t know what those other things are !
but yeah that’s fair. it’s a confusing book. all the Quakers characters (Starbuck, Ahab, Bildad & Peleg, and the other Quakers) speak using “thees/thous” because that used to be the informal second person, and in Quaker communities that was used with Everyone for far longer than most other communities. they used the informal second person with everyone bc it was a part of Quaker “plain speech/plain dress/etc” and a way of not differentiating (via formal vs informal) between ppl they spoke to bc everyone was to be treated equally (in the theory/idea of it at least)
anyway so all the quaker characters in mobydick use thee/thou/the informal second person while most everyone else just uses “you”
I just finished Moby Dick and now I am SO excited to be able to read your comic once I get time, your art is amazing and your comic is the only reason I decided to read Moby Dick at all! It's going to be so fun seeing what you do with the premise!
thank you that means so much 🥺i hope you enjoyed the book and i hope you enjoy the comic 💖

they make me Ache
(more art from a couple months ago)
[ID: The first image is a photo of a watercolor sketch of Ahab and Fedallah from Moby Dick, stulized like stone statues without clothes, pupils in their eyes, or body hair. Fedallah is leaning on Ahab’s shoulder and smiling up at him, reaching a hand up to caress his cheek, while Ahab smiles down at him in return. Both of them have golden halos. The whole painting is done in yellows, pinks, and purples.
The second image is a pencil sketch of Fedallah and Ahab kissing and smiling. Fedallah is wearing a turban, and Ahab has his hair long and tied in a ponytail.]

HI!!!! FINALLY STARTING TO MAKE MY WAY THROUGH THE WEBCOMIC oughggh ohh my goodness this is my heaven on earth btw btw!??!? IM BARELY 25 PAGES IN AND i NEED you to know how much i adore this thing. like im SHAKING YOU OVER THIS> I REALLY ADORE THE DESIGNS AND THE WAY THE INTERACTIONS ARE DRAWN AND JUST EVERYTHING!?!? it so cool its legitimately so so so coool. im legitimately shaking as i read this thing from pure joy. a couple speciifc things too, THE CHURHC. THE CHURCH. I CANNOT REMEMBER FROM MY ORIGINAL READTHROUGH IF TEXTUALLY HES IN A BOAT PULPIT OR IF THATS INSPIRED BY THE 1956 MOVIE, BUT EITHER WAY THATS SO COOL. also FACIAL EXPRESSIONS!!!!! goodness theyre so cute truly. truuuly. AND THE FIRST NIGHT AND THEIR SECOND MEET/REINTRODUCTIONS!?!??!> DUUDE i wanted to sob from pure joy again, and again. goodness i love ishmael and queequeg so so much. holy. ALL IN ALL AWESOME JOB. I WISH YOU GREAT LUCK IN THIS PROJECT!!!!! <333
awww thank you so much that's so sweet of you!!!! aaa!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖 i'm so glad you enjoy it and i really appreciate this 💖💖💖💖🥺🥺🥺🥺
yes, the pulpit in the book is in fact designed to look like a ship's pulpit! with a rope ladder that Father Mapple climbs “as if ascending the main-top of his vessel” and paneling painted “in the likeness of a ship’s bluff bows.” (from ch8 ‘the pulpit’):
and the real life New Bedford church that Melville references (which in the book is called the Whaleman's Chapel, but IRL is the Seamen's Bethel) also has a ship's bow shaped pulpit (photo my own from my visit in 2019):
(though i don't actually know how old this pulpit is and if it was built this way after the book's popularity)
anyway thanks so much for this ask; i really appreciate :3 🥺🥺🥺 those old pages still mean a lot to me. someday i want to go back and remaster some of the art but i still really like them.
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE IT’S MY ONE DAY OF THE YEAR WHERE I GET TO BE EXTRA ANNOYING ABOUT THIS!!! it’s my baby’s 6th birthday today!! you should read her!!! also look at quishmael. aren’t they sweeties . i miss them (<-is actively drawing them and posting pages of them)
incidentally, i also have decided that today/ april 24th shall also be fedallah’s birthday. in accordance with me deciding that ishmael’s birthday is herman melville’s (august 1st) since he’s half melville’s self insert, and queequeg’s is the book’s publication date (october 18th) since that’s the day he technically came into the world, fedallah’s birthday is now the birthday of the comic too, aka the birth of this version of him (the better, non racist, actually a character, with my backstory for him, version). i also had already known id wanted his birthday to be in the spring which is perfect for this. so. happy birthday fedallah too 💖💖💖🌸🌸🌸
anyway. read my comic <3 go my scarab (screenshots)
