Tonight we went out and enjoyed a few beers at a local brewery to 1. Get away from everything. 2. Maybe get a lil’ buzz. 3. Reconnect. 4. Get a little drive time in the van since she came back from a brake line repair at the shop. .................... I (meg) have been dragging for a while. My head has been full with doubt, emotional stress and more doubt. Just by sheer, unexplained chance, our waitress turned out to be saving up for her first van to hit the road for a full year very soon. We talked to her for a bit about her idea for a van—a normal van, NOT a sprinter (which we were ecstatic about). It’s amazing how much people think they need sometimes. .................... Anyway, that was exactly what I needed. Funny how things happen sometimes. If I can sell you on anything it’s to buy yourself the cheapest vehicle you can find that actually runs, throw a bed in the back and go. Just go. There’s a big f’ing world out there and you’re not going to experience it through books, tv or your f’ing phone (instagram, facebook, twitter, vine, etc. whatever). We’ll be hitting the coast here in a couple of days, then on to Florida to see Thomas’ Mom in Sarasota. I can’t say I’m ready for warmer weather yet. In honor of #caturday, we thought we'd show off our petite kitty explorer, Scout. As you may have guessed, traveling with a cat can be a challenge at times, but so can a lot of things. We never would have guessed this domestic, litter-using, house cat would take to doing her business outside at times, walking with us on trails and adapting to living in the van as well as she has. That day we found the distributer cap, rotor and ignition coil wire were bad. Luckily, we were still able to drive to a local NAPA and purchase a replacement. We had a snowbird retiree from Alaska try and help us out. While our van is beautiful in our eyes, we fully understand she attracts quite a bit of attention from those who don't know her. After catching up with a close friend last week, he offered us a spot behind his apartment to spend the night. Rarely do we refuse such an offer, and this was no exception, knowing we would be hanging out together the following day as well. Around 10pm we hopped in our four wheeled abode and made our way to the aforementioned spot. No sooner had we shut off the engine and started moving toward the bed when the entire driver's side was lit up by a police car--headlights, light bar, spotlight and flashlight. "You've got to be kidding me." Thomas hopped back in the driver's seat and rolled down the window. "Sir, would you mind stepping out of the vehicle?" "Sure, no problem," Thomas sighed. Playing it cool seems to get you farther, quicker when you're this far from home. Fingers crossed, and hoping for the best. The officer had already checked our plates and asked our names and what we were doing. "Spending some time with friends and family. Our buddy lives in that building right there." "Okay. No problem. We just got a call from someone saying they'd never seen the vehicle before. Wanted to make sure it wasn't a shady situation." "I see. Better safe than sorry, right?" "Sure thing." "Can I help with anything else?" "Nope. Y'all have a good night."
