How much alcohol he had drowned himself in, he lost track. Not enough, clearly, to truly drown himself of his sorrows.

And nowhere near enough what he had done to Seido.

The sky was spinning above him. Rain thought absently that maybe he'd choke on his vomit if he was so lucky. 

Oh, how his mother would be so proud. Having clawed his way to the top of his classes, managing to be taken in by the royal family, and then taken in by the deranged promises of a rebel. Promises to make a name for himself, to do something grand. The cure for Tarkat? No, that wasn't worth it anymore.

To change a realm? Free people?

That was a lie. Who cared about freeing the people–Rain hadn't cared one bit.

How proud his mother would be, to see him now, so guilty of what he had done. Perhaps that was the grandest accomplishment of his life now–regret. The greatest sorcerer and now here he was, resenting his choices. Regretting what he had done.

What a change he made. Truly the greatest, he thought bitterly.
