Summary

In this iteration of Kate, I really wanted to explore the idea of a morally gray character, because I think those types often get lost in the chaos of Mortal Kombat. Characters flip-flop sides all the time, but very rarely do they ever stay squarely in the middle. In addition to the war between realms, Kate has this internal conflict where she struggles with her identity.

She's torn between being human and a weapon forged by the gods. She's caught up in a war between all that is good and all that is evil. She's a thief, but she's a provider. She's a murderer, but she still packs her little brother and cousins' lunch every morning before school. She's a liar and a cheat and she fucks up, but everything she does comes from a place of love and duty.

Then she deals with her guilt by getting into relationships with men who aren't good for her because it makes her feel wanted and valuable. At the same time she's punishing herself, because despite wanting nothing more than true love and genuine connection, she believes she doesn't deserve any of that because of all the atrocities she commits.
