[OCTOBER 2024] Songsterr Tab for Weezer's "Misstep" (2m52s Version) has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!
According to Weezerpedia's page for this song, "Misstep" was a demo recorded in 2002 after the release of Maladroit as a possible contender for Weezer's fifth album, though it—along with many other demos of the time—were eventually scrapped and either released on one of the Alone collections or, in the case of this demo, uploaded to Weezer.com.
"Misstep"'s chuggy feel and distinct lack of pop instrumentation clearly align it more with Maladroit's tracklist than what would eventually become Make Believe, although its tempo is so fast that Rivers' vocals are quite slurred and at time unintelligible (its lyrics on the Weezerpedia page literally have "???" in a number of places). I am still nonetheless drawn to how bouncy the song's bassline is, and it has some pretty nice switch-ups in the form of half-time reprises.
The decision to make the song swing-feel also works great at contributing to the track's driving groove, although I experienced a number of hiccups with Songsterr's audio rendering since the site seemed unsure how to handle things like triplet hihat rolls when swing-feel notation was enabled. The recording's audio fidelity was also on the poorer end, making it hard to make out what the guitars were playing at times, though I still enjoy the finished product.
