At least once a fucking week I think about a line from the Misraaks lore entry in the Dreaming City lore book. These two opening paragraphs are great in their entirety but there's one line that always gets stuck in my head.
"She will twist and tear his arms from his body like she is shucking a fine, fat crab for dinner, and he will be glad of the slow, sick cracks and crunches of his bones."
There's such a sick sort of poetry to the line to me. The alliteration and sibilance, the perfectly placed commas, the honest brutality of the actions described. It makes me wonder when exactly his capture takes place in regards to the third and fourth entries from Above All Else, where Misraaks joins his mother's crew officially.
"I did not give her the satisfaction of hearing me scream." At the start of this entry he was thinking on all the ways he knew she loved him.
Even knowing all that he thinks she would have been satisfied to hear him scream. But I think it's fairly clear based on her reaction to his abandoning Rakis and Siviks on an asteroid in the fourth entry that she never wanted to have to teach him the worlds brutality, even after having no choice but to take it up herself.
She was still alive when he was captured by Sjur during the Reef Wars as a Vandal. (A friend made the good point that dreg/vandal etc. are castes in a crew more so than size like it seems to humanity so he could have been "full-grown," but a Vandal... but she still may not have gotten to see her son fully grown??) I feel like he must never have seen his mother again after that point, at least as far as I can tell. Destinypedia seems to imply that he took over as Captain of her crew after her death (on Inaaks' page) but they don't cite what lore that comes from and that seems like it would be odd to me?
Allying himself with the Awoken almost certainly seems like something she would have opposed at that point. It seems most likely to me that he left her crew then, and sometime after that is when he found Eido and took her in. I don't think the crew he had later on Titan was his mother's old crew since they were all House Dusk at the point afaik. He wasn't around when she was killed and didn't know for a long time so I think that all but confirms he didn't take over her crew.
I wonder if she knew he joined the Awoken, or if she thought he'd died in whatever battle he went missing in. But I don't think that if he returned she would have taken pleasure in shucking him like a fine, fat crab for dinner at all. But she would have done it.
I choose to think she'd have been proud of him for breaking the cycle if she knew where he'd end up: Kell of a house where eliksni have a chance to have gentle hands again. That he hadn't been ruined by the lessons in brutality that she was shamefully forced to give him so that he could survive. I find Inaaks to be such an interesting character. I wish we got to know a little more about her. I wish Above All Else was a longer lore book, because what we got from it was so damn good. If only it had more than four entries. But I'm biased... These parallel lines from Inaaks and Misraaks get me thinking every time I read it:
Fluency is straightforward, honest. But eloquence implies a greater understanding of the language learned. He became better at violence than her, and she was ashamed to have taught him so well. But in the end he managed to build a new future for the eliksni and that just really ties it all together for me. Without that history of violence to back his decision to not be violent (against the mind-open eliksni; against humanity), he wouldn't have been respected enough for it to stick, I think. At least among the eliksni. Something about wise men fearing the wrath of a gentle man. I dunno where that quote comes from but it fits Misraaks to me. He certainly wasn't always gentle, but he ended up choosing to be.
And it still cracks me up though that Misraaks calls House Judgment flesh-lovers in his mind when he first meets Sjur, considering he's arguably the biggest flesh-lover out of the eliksni we know in the lore after everything that happens. In a purely diplomatic sense, of course.
Maybe its dumb but going to work has been less stressful since I put Misraaks on my car keys. Something this little can be enough to help make it through the day. Get you a little guy for your keychain if it would help.
I've created a vocaloid playlist for Misraaks based off of the last fic I did for him, I think the old man deserves to play a few arcade games as a treat. I am also writing him again, so expect the 2nd fic to be out and posted asap.
Misraaks my beloved and also Moments of Triumph 2026 my beloved
Hey so why am I only now realizing that Misraaks' quote to his fireteam at the end of the Outbreak Perfected lore tab...
...is him reciting something he heard from Sjur Eido at some point or another?
He admired her so fucking much man. I really hope they were besties.

Six months of Misraaks.
My project this year amidst health stuff is to work with watercolours. Every month I'm painting one 4x6 of Misraaks with one of the traditional birth month flowers.
This is Jan-June, in columns from the top down!
What with Destiny 2 ending live service, wanted to make one more drawing to push my ace Misraaks agenda lol
Test Drabble. 665 words
The Witness had been defeated, Maya Sundaresh out of the way, himself--Misraaks, Kell of Kells, and Eramis, well, Eramis was going back home to Riis, to help rebuild a more healthy and lively homeworld yet again.
It gave him a moment of reprieve, knowing everything was over, knowing that Eramis would be leaving in the current days made him upset, but in the end of it all, it had been her decision and hers alone to make. The best he could do is make it up to her by any means seen fit. Misraaks lets out a chitter of content as he leaves the bar with a stomach full of food and no blabbering done by Rakis.
He had grown accustomed and honestly addicted to the many ramen shops and other shops that littered the Last City like it was nothing. There was so much culture, now. Between Cabal, Eliksni, Awoken and Human, cuisine and culture was blooming, And it couldn't make him happier to know such. With the Witness gone, with the Disciples of the Witness gone, and Maya taken care of, they could finally relax, they could finally focus on what they all wanted to do.
Misraaks had been invited to spectate the weekly Trials of Osiris but with a 'twist' as Saint put it. He'd chitter softly as a response to such a twist of fates that included banning of certain weapons and forcing Guardians to use things they've never used before. It was meant to be an exciting change of pace to see who was able to succeed under the pressure of handling something they've never used before.
Of course, there were still sword-skating warlocks and hunters, and dashing hammer titans--which Misraaks found greatly amusing at all times. it reminded him that the ingenuity these Guardians had were none like any other. Well, now he was excited to go, given the thoughts plastered into his own mind by his own admissions, Misraaks chittered amusingly, using the transmat system to fast travel into the Last City, waving towards Guardians heading in and out.
His favorite Guardian waving him over before signing something about Trials of Osiris, and he simply looked over towards Saint and Osiris' quarters, or perhaps he was looking towards the Hanger of Saint's ship. He was supposed to meet them by the hangar.
" Ah, yes I shall be there to watch! I'm excited to see how you fight, Slayer Baron of Light. "
He simply bowed and walked off towards the Hangar, thoughts racing about the matches he would be watching the whole day and night. Misraaks had made sure to bring snacks, he had enjoyed these fried pork rinds with Cabal spices that he'd picked up a bag of just in case Osiris was interested in such things. Given the fact they were mostly air, the Eliksni Kell could see himself eating the entire bag without realizing it.
Being said, he had spent so much time thinking about the bag he was holding that he had walked all the way into the Hangar without a single word said to bystanders. The Eliksni, slightly embarrassed, skittered towards Saint's ship, and as soon as the Titan noticed him, he noticed the Titan had stopped feeding the pigeons, and had set down the small bag with feed in it, just to use both of this hands to cup one of his for a full titan handshake.
[ " You ready to head out, Mii--..Mith..Misthrax? " ]
Saint's pronunciation was still rocky, but he was proud that the Titan was trying despite the thick accent. They were halfway there, just had to get the [th] sound out of the pronunciation and treat the [mi] as a [mees], but now wasn't the time for a lesson on Eliksni naming pronunciation. Misraaks chittered heartily.
" Indeed, is Osiris already waiting for us?"
[ " Sure is, you know how Osiris can be sometimes? " ]
" Prudent and brash? "
[ " Let's go with that. " ]
