HISTORY

Javier and his brother, Mateo, were orphaned fairly early in their life. Both were adopted at the age of 6 by a seemingly functional couple, and doted on for the first few years. He had been praised as their very own prodigy as he excelled in his studies. Yet all of that love and attention slowly chipped away when his mother, Adella, was laid off and couldn’t get another job.

It hadn’t been to their knowledge that Adella was actually a recovered alcoholic. She had stayed sober three years before adopting the Sorrano brothers, but she was quick to fall back into her vices and make everyone else pay for her faults. Their father, ever the more quiet counterpart of the couple, turned a blind eye to it all. As the sole financial provider, his time at home grew less and less. Even when it was evident that Adella had taken out her frustrations on the Javier and Mateo emotionally and physically. Actually, his presence at home piratically became scarce if anything.

Whether it was at home or school, Javier did everything he could to protect his brother. He always tried to advert their mother’s rage onto himself – even when something hadn’t been his fault at all. And when push came to shove, the Sorrano brothers resorted to stealing ( food & clothes ) since their parents hardly met the bare minimum.

The two of them continued their acts of thievery until they graduated high school. Javier waned off of his case of sticky hands, and landed a full ride to achieve his aspirations as veterinarian. Mateo, on the other hand, only furthered his involvement with crime even though he promised to change his ways. Spoiler alert – Mateo did not.

The transition to Wickway was nothing but a bumpy ride, but Javier still persevered in the end. He got his bachelor’s and master degree, found a good friend along the way, started to practice in his field of veterinary medicine, and found a home where he least expected it. Even if the island proved to be soiled with sinister doings and corrupt morals.

Despite being born in a far colder climate, Jason Wells grew up learning all about the island of Wickway. It was his mother who had grown up on the island, and left for New York City the minute she had graduated from high school. Though she loved the island, her career aspirations brought her north, where she would meet the love of her life and have a son.

During his formative years, Jace loved growing up in the city; the freedom to jump on a train anywhere he liked fed his sense of freedom. His love of the city was snuffed out at age ten, however, the day his grandfather came and told him his parents had been shot and killed. Bystanders at a bank robbery, he later learned. He returned to Wickway with the older man, willingly at first. 

The first few years on the island were fine. Jace had always been good at making friends and he loved living closer to the water. The transition was still harder than the boy would care to admit, and around age seventeen, something finally snapped in him. Falling in with the wrong crowd, partying and experimenting with drugs, anything to make him forget. It was one of his new friends that introduced the boy to the Santoros.

Still managing to graduate high school, Jace became involved in day to day activities, working his way up as he could. He enjoyed the life, the thrill that it brought. But that was when it was only himself he had to worry about.

That all came to a screeching halt six months into a relationship when he was twenty four. The excited look on his then-girlfriend’s face as she showed him the test made his stomach clench. Keeping her away from the Santoro’s was hard enough, and nine months later, he also had their little Clara to worry about. 

The blow up of the gang had been his saving grace, his way to keep the two he loved out of harm’s way. Unfortunately, his ex did not see it that way. Freaking out, she packed up and left without a word, leaving him to look after their daughter. 

Tobias Jacob TJ Andrade, 40, runt of the litter. good-natured, eager to please, thrives on praise and hates being alone, but has to tolerate it. likes being at work, in good company, basketball, cooking (especially when he can’t sleep) and the scent of the ocean. dislikes roller-coasters that go upside down, feeling like he’s let people down and broccoli.

at birth; born in mainland Florida to a workaholic father and a busy mother, who weren’t home as much as they would’ve liked to be, leaving several nannies over the years to raise the Andrade siblings, who learned to look out for eachother and became quite the close-knit group of kids. as much as he loved his siblings, though, he always grew up seeking his parent’s approval and was overjoyed at even the slightest bit of praise from his father.

at seventeen; his father divorced his mother and moved away, more focused on his job than he was on his family. Mrs. Andrade was heartbroken, and her kids banded together stronger than ever to look after her in her time of need.

at nineteen; he was the last sibling to move away from the family home, into a shared place with a few friends from high school.

at twenty; he fell absolutely head over heels in love. fairly self-explanatory. she was in a bad place, he was her shoulder to lean on, and eventually, feelings blossomed between them and it was all quite the cliche love story.

at twenty-one; got his first job in a police department in his home town. he knew early on that he wanted to work his way up to becoming a detective, a job that had fascinated him for a long time.

at twenty-five; earned his promotion to being a detective. life was good, he’d worked his way up to his dream job, finally was renting a place with his girlfriend,and he was even thinking about proposing. he was that head over heels for her.

at twenty-six; he followed his girlfriend to Wickway. that was where she was born and mostly raised, or so she told him, so he requested a transfer and was able to travel there with her. something had happened and she had to return for a family event, and wanted to stay, at least for a while. he would probably have followed her across the whole country if she’d asked him to.

at twenty-eight; he grew a pair, and after deciding to stay in Wickway for longer than they’d planned, he proposed. still, everything was fairytale-perfect, though the residents of Wickway each had some very interesting stories to tell and at the police department, there was never a dull moment, that was for sure.

at twenty-nine; he noticed his fiancee was falling back into old habits, so had the stress of taking care of her on top of his workload - though he did everything he could for her, and never complained once. he always saw the good in her and looked past her flaws, giving her all the help he could manage and encouraging her to reach out to professionals who could help in ways that he couldn’t.

at thirty; his fiancee disappeared. the whole department sure as hell knew about it, and so did everybody who knew him. the other half of detective Andrade had disappeared without a trace. her phone? on the nightstand beside the bed they shared. her handbag? left behind in the living room. and him? left brokenhearted alongside all the possessions she’d mysteriously left behind. was it down to her bad habits, or something darker than that? given Wickway’s history... to say he was concerned was an understatement.

at thirty three; he had one of the few breakthroughs he’d ever have on his missing fiancee’s case. her engagement ring from him had been washed up on the beach, along with the hand that initially, was assumed to belong to the owner of the ring. however, that was proven otherwise - the hand belonged not to his missing fiancee but to some other unfortunate person, but that posed the question - how had she come into possession of the ring?

Thomas Finley Tommy Eubanks, 39, criminal turned auto-shop manager. is probably sky-high right now. 99.9% of his friends don’t actually know what state he was born in. known for being a hands-on and skilled manager who loves his dog, Billy, more than anything in the world. likes living his newfound quiet life, animals, and working on his own car. dislikes dogfights, the crosses on his hands, and constantly feeling like he’s being watched.

at birth; his parents were young when they had him - very, very young. they weren’t prepared to be parents and it showed in the way that they started to raise him for the first portion of his life, their other habits sometimes taking priority over him. his grandma stepped in and helped where she could, which led to him forming a bond with her that was stronger than the one he had with his own mother.

at five; his parents went to sleep one night and didn’t wake up. he was taken away and placed into the foster care system because his grandma couldn’t be his sole carer, and that was when somehow, things began to get even worse for him. he’d only continue to feel like he didn’t fit in, wherever he was. 

at twelve; he tried to run away from home for the first time after moving between several different homes, feeling like he’d rather be anywhere else but the homes he was taken into. all he did was climb out of his bedroom window and walk three miles in the night to his grandma’s. over the next few years, he tried unsuccessfully to leave, and not return.

at sixteen; he succeeded in his quest to get the hell out of where he was living, disappeared without a trace from his foster home, and if anybody tried looking for him, they didn’t succeed. he fucked off and moved through a few states on his own for the next two years.

at eighteen; he joined a small group of people who he became friends with and subsequently traveled with, realizing how much he did miss human company. they completed odd jobs to afford to stay in motels and hostels and anywhere else that would have them.

at nineteen; he was involved in real crime for the first time. sure, he’d been shoplifting all his life, but this was grand theft auto. he and his buddies stole a van to take them on the next leg of their adventure, and subsequently discovered a litter of puppies in a cage in the back. they sold all but one of the puppies, and Tommy kept one; the first dog he was responsible for

at twenty-two; he had his first real up close and personal encounter with the law. they tried to arrest him, but being the slippery bastard he was, he did what he did best and cleared off out of there; which was for the best, as there were a few people in a few neighboring states that probably wanted to question him, too. he took his dog, broke off from his group of friends, and for a while, only had his four legged friend for company.

at twenty-six; he was getting better at fixing up cars, but he was also getting better at not getting caught when breaking the law. he still moved around, never staying in one place for more than a few months.

at twenty-eight; he found himself completely alone again, having to bury and leave behind his best friend. the next three years, give or take, he spent on his own for the most part, and that took its toll on him.

at thirty-one; he found himself in Wickway, and did what he always did; slept around and did some odd jobs for cash, intending to leave again after another few months, but quickly caught wind of the Santoro gang and was subsequently roped in by a new friend he’d made, who knew all he wanted was a place to belong. 

at thirty-two; he finally acquired the infamous Santoro crosses on his hands. he loved the symbolism of, felt like he had a home for the first time in forever - but slowly would grow to hate them

at thirty-five; he was completely thrown off track by the gang’s dismantling but he held it together. got another dog to keep him sane and to give him day-to-day company, and stuck with his legal job, eventually earning his promotion.

Enrique’s lived in Wickway his whole life. His parents were in and out of his life, because they worked a lot and then left no time for their son. But to his credit, Enrique’s always been the kid who knew how to keep busy, and he wasn’t much for affection anyways 

So as life goes in a small town, you get into trouble and you do dumb shit and you get caught and you repeat the cycle. Enrique’s rapsheet is long, but almost innocent; it involved getting caught skinny dipping in a neighbour’s pool, reckless driving under the influence, and all the crazy things you could think of, that didn’t involve breaking principles like stealing or killing. 

And when Ricky turned 18, he decided to do something with his life by joining the Air Force. He was awful at it, he made fellow cadets and instructors angry with him. But this was his one chance to have some kind of direction in life. He was aimless, and now he had structure. 

So when he came back to Wickway, four years later, he was a different man. An Airman, with responsibilities and overall, a different approach. And then he started going around dating girls who showed an interest in him. 

As it goes, he goes back and he does his thing and when he’s finally honorably discharged, following a fatal accident, he’s a Senior Airman with a limp in his step and all the confidence knocked out of him. His hubris made him Icarus, and he had flown too close to the sun

And now he lives on the grounds of the Congregation, taking up the groundskeeper job as a way to earn his keep and keep busy and away from other people

So Odette’s life is one big fairytale. Parents were high school sweethearts who moved to Wickway after they graduated, carrying a three year old Odette with them. They were cash strapped, but so much in love, they didn’t even care. 

Till of course, the bills kept mounting higher and higher and her parents had no choice but to shake the Devil’s hand, in the form of working for the Santoro family in exchange for a roof over their heads/

And do well, they did. Odette was expected to follow in her parents’ footsteps, a destiny that was set up for her. But when she was growing up among the elite of Wickway, being able to show off what she has, she thinks this is the life for her. 

Her parents died in an accident (a casualty of being linked with the family), and Odette started questioning her career choices. This wasn’t the life she wanted for herself, but did she have a choice in the matter? 

Turns out, she did. It was hard, and she has not been friends with any of the Santoro and affiliated, and her career path was purely instinctual; what was scarier than being a cop, huh? 

She knows there are other strays like her, but she doesn’t like to think of them as friends. Being as private of a human being that she is, she keeps to herself always, not trusting anyone to be privy to the parts of her life that matter.

sidney graham lived a privileged life. growing up in greenwich, connecticut, just over an hour away from new york city and named one of america’s richest cities, she was brought up with a silver spoon in her mouth, to say the least, and her father created a monster from the moment he began spoiling her. from then on, the young blonde had him wrapped around her little finger (and still does to this day). 

from an early age, sidney had big aspirations. everybody who knew her knew she was going to do big things one day, and sid believed that too. she was a wonderful student, got top grades, was captain of the debate team and crowned prom queen. she was a shoo-in to get into her first choice college... until she met leo jenkins. they fell in love quickly, and it was the first time sidney was truly head over heels for someone. two years after graduation, they tied the knot. they had their whole lives ahead of them, but leo began showing signs of being a control freak. sidney wanted to go to law school (she delayed going to college fresh out of high school to travel), but he believed his wife’s duty was to stay home and cater to her man. it was these ancient stereotypes that got under sid’s skin, but she was willing to do anything for him.

they made a life together in new york city, leo was a journalist and had a secure position at one of the country’s biggest publications. meanwhile, sidney felt trapped. she tried to enjoy the life of a kept woman, but it wasn’t for her. still, she put up with it and it worked for at least six years. they had got into a routine, sidney had a group of female friends she brunched with multiple times a week, and different activities to keep herself busy, but deep down, she was resenting her husband more and more. it began to make her seethe. she would see all of the working women in city and envy them, that’s what she was supposed to do, but he kept her from it to appease to his outdated ideals. in all honesty, she began to hate him.

to make things worse, sid uncovered a three year affair leo had been having with a co-worker. she was younger, bubblier, more adventurous and pretty much the epitome of a midlife crisis. that’s what pushed sidney into a rage. how dare he? he stopped her from making something of herself, she cooked, cleaned, and gave that man everything he ever wanted, yet he still cheated?!?! she was beyond angry at that point. he really expected her to love him unconditionally, and that was something she couldn’t do. every nasty little trait she’d discovered about him over the years made he realise she truly didn’t know him the way she thought she did.

he had to be dealt with. he didn’t deserve anything good from her. she was going to teach him a lesson. it took over a year of rigorous planning and research, but sidney pulled off the perfect crime. she staged her husband’s death. it was a clean kill, and every piece of incriminating evidence was destroyed. his death was ruled an accident, and gave the blonde a chance to play the grieving widow for over a year before moving from nyc to an island off the coast of miami, under the guise of starting ‘fresh’. 

she’s been in town for three months and took the first job that came her way, bartending at off the hook. it wasn’t ideal, but it was all she was qualified for. plus, her intoxicating charm was a bonus when it came to winning over customers and keep the coming back.

Mira’s life can be described in one word; ordinary. She was born to second to last in a family of six, with a mother and father who tried their best to feed and clothe these little rascals. But Mira herself refused to be anything ordinary, because she had big plans for herself. 

Her plan was simple; to be the prettiest, tallest and most eye catching person in the crowd. She was lucky to have a headstart in the looks department, inheriting the high cheekbones, and once she learned to do her makeup right, everyone doted on the little girl. 

And as she grew older, she got bolder, demanding more just for existing. She hung out with people, got invited to things, and started to leave her family behind. By the time she was an adult, she was already rooming up with people, trying to get through community college on the funds she received from her online jobs. 

It wasn’t until her last year that a friend of a friend introduced her to stripping. Mira has always been attuned to dance, and she always considered clothes to be a prudish necessity anyways, so she took to the lifestyle like a pro. 

The move to Wickway was just that; a move. She wanted to get out of the same place she grew up in, refusing to becoming that person who settled. Besides, secluded, run of the mill towns always had the one thing she was looking for....rich people. 

She sugars on the down low, sucking her patrons dry till she lets go of them. It’s her way of living, her bread and her butter, and while she’s dancing it up at Driftwood, she’s also paying rent money at the motel.
