I've never lost my soft spot for Freed x Mirajane. I started shipping them after their fight, Mira's speech and breaking through to Freed in an emotional moment and suggesting they spend the Harvest Festival together. Mashima never really gave them more interactions, but also aesthetically they fit quite well together plus they're both popular with the Weekly Sorcerer, both are poised and well-spoken but also have a dark and untamed demonic side and Mira as barmaid and Freed with his later experience from Blue Pegasus as popular host.
Mirafreed! I remember watching their fight back during the Battle of Fairy Tail and crying over the amount of angst it had. I love that Mirajane was the one to get through to Freed on how making people fight each other in the way that it happened is just not good and that they should just come together and be friends. I totally forgot that Freed was popular with Socerer weekly?! 😲.
You bring up such good points on the potential this pairing has and how similar they actually are. Like I would do anything just to see those two interacting more 😭.

I have many headcanons about Mirajane’s love life:
I like to think she had a thing with Laxus when they were teens (Before Lisanna’s death) but nothing serious came out of it + really toxic exes vibes until they made up as adults.
Erzajane. After Lisanna’s death. Maybe not a relationship, but a ‘more than friends, less than lovers’ situation that had a stronger impact on Mira than on Erza. I also like to think Erza was Mirajane’s first love.
And you can’t tell me NOTHING happened between her and Freed. I headcanon her as a lesbian and Freed as gay, but in my headcanon after the battle of fairy tail they dated for a short time, both of them thinking they were bi. Then they both realised they’re gay as hell.
Canajane endgame. Cana probably had a big crush on Mira ever since they were teens but only flirted with her jokingly as she usually does. I can definitely see a drunken confession or something along those lines. (I have too many Canajane headcanons i might have to do another post about it)
Plus I think Mira would be the biggest Fraxus supporter. Seeing her two exes getting together was probably a shock, but she was happy for them.

Usually I almost exclusively ship lgbtq+ ships but Mirafreed has a soft spot in my heart and I saw that you're not opposed to them either- would you like to ramble about the potential wasted for them as individual characters as well as as possible couple developed in the course of the series? owo If not then that's cool too but I thought it's at least nice to say HI and appreciate that you're also kinda pro Mirafreed 💕 They're both so complex and their relationship would have so many nuances and it could have developed so nicely while also having them grow as characters alongside!
Honestly, if I wasn't so protective of Freed's sexuality from hideously heteronormative people, I'd probably be more openly into Mirafreed. They have more potential chemistry than Laxus and Freed do, if I'm honest.
Mirafreed do better than a lot of pairings in Fairy Tail because they have an actual starting point of conflict that is broken down and can grow closer from there. Their aesthetics actually match well, contrasting literally everyone but Gruvia (who have waaaaay worse reasons not to be a couple). Freed's gentlemanly and reserved nature vs his inner darkness and downright chilling willingness to resort to morally reprehensible actions to enforce his worldview. Mirajane's sweet and determinedly nonaggressive learned behavior vs. the powerful demonic violence she shunned when it failed to protect her sister. Mirajane using a power she had not been able to reach before now to brutalize Freed and stopping herself short of killing him by remembering her sister's face? Fuck dragon fire, now that's magic.
Mirajane is silly and merry, while Freed is serious and calculating. Mirajane has always stood on business for her family, while Freed had to learn not to shut people out. In short, they have actual chemistry. This could've been a pairing I actually stanned ten toes down for, when Fairy Tail as a whole is woefully deficient of them.
