A New Spinosaurus enters the Archive, and its name is Mirabilis
Say hello to Spinosaurus Mirabilis, a new species of Spinosaurus discovered roughly a month ago.
Now for most of you, I’d hope Spinosaurus is in no way a new name to you. For some of you, Mirabilis isn’t either, as it was quite the shocking discovery.
Mirabilis resided in what is now the Sahara Desert about 95 million years ago, which, prior to this discovery, Spinosaurus had not been found in the region at all.
Scientists have known for a while now that Spinosaurus would have had a crest, but what makes Mirabilis so fascinating is the sheer size of its crest.
What was Mirabilis doing in the desert you may ask? Well, Simple! It wasn’t always a desert. In fact, 95 million years ago, the portion of the Sahara where Mirabilis was found would have been a rich network of rivers and forests, perfect for Mirabilis to thrive!
We’re honestly so lucky to have discovered Mirabilis, as the site had not been investigated by Paleontologists in nearly 70 years prior. Mirabilis, welcome to the world of science!
