During class activity, we wrote down our artistic vision statements and discussed it. A really nice activity, I feel lucky enough to share mine and to know my classmates’ vision, what kind of designer they want to become. I shared some comments and  got a good comment and question back as well. Some questions like: What is our dream collaboration?, and what kind of design would you like to focus on when you make your own studio?. So I would like to revisit and polish my vision statement a little bit.

Let’s start with my current passion and design strengths. Currently, my curiosity is at the peak and rocket high, I am always head up for design styles, finding new designers and design inspirations.

Like Austin Kleon mentioned in his book, “Climb your own family tree, “Marcel Duchamp said, “I don’t believe in art. I believe in artists.” This is actually a pretty good method for studying—if you try to devour the history of your discipline all at once, you’ll choke. Instead, chew on one thinker—writer, artist, activist, role model—you really love. Study everything there is to know about that thinker. Then find three people that the thinker loved, and find out everything about them. Repeat this as many times as you can. Climb up the tree as far as you can go. Once you build your tree, it’s time to start your own branch” (Kleon 15, Steal Like an Artist).

In 5 years, I want to be a designer, always working on this personal passion project and also crafting amazing collaboration design projects with other brands and designers all around the world.

I want to conclude this week’s reflection with a design piece by Cuesta Studio that aligns closely with my vision statement. The studio is led by one of my favourite designers, Jesse Nyberg, who consistently creates outstanding graphic design work. He regularly produces music album covers and posters rich in texture and distinctive layouts as part of his passion projects. At the same time, he collaborates with bands and other artists, which I find incredibly inspiring.
