hiya! what advice would you give to someone wanting to improve with their art?
hellooo my go-to advice for artists of any skill level is to spend more time not just drawing but also looking in an intentional manner, which is how you can develop a systemic understanding of dimension/form and colour/light and all the other things that you might want to improve as an artist. i'm a little weak on my values and colour theory because i spend more time observing anatomy and expressions, and i think it shows up in my work. observing doesn't just mean staring but also imagining how things break down, looking at someone and seeing how their muscles move under their skin, knowing where tendons connect and how fat folds etc.
some other advice for artists closer to the start of their learning journey, and especially adult artists, is to develop what my homeboy @eldritchdilf calls frustration tolerance. you have to inoculate yourself to the frustration that arises from not being as good as you want to be AND the frustration of not being as good as other people. absolutely everything you create is a learning opportunity even if it isn't necessarily a success and it's important to cultivate that attitude so you don't do the one thing which will impede your art, which is giving up.
