Anything but those vertical slabs huh?
I play a lot of modded minecraft, but the recent snapshot of the new cushion update has me really excited to play vanilla again! Especially since the server I'm joining with a group of friends will be a vanilla server. It would be good to practice building in vanilla!

They’re adding cushions to Minecraft! After 17 years you can finally SIT!
But not only that, the cushions themselves are entities that can be placed on half slabs and any non-full block. Even just the half block of a stair!
YOU CAN MAKE FULLY FUNCTIONAL COUCHES OUT OF STAIRS NOW! It’s not just decorations anymore, all of your stair couches just became FUNCTIONAL!
So I spent some time in the new snapshot figuring out what blocks the new cushions could be placed on....
The answer? Basically anything.
And, if a block has a model that goes outside of the top of the block hitbox, those elements will poke through the cushion, as seen with the dragon head!
