@pale-opal @imafraidofdogs @antfed-blog @absolutely-normal-about-x @bruggle @aeroburning Hereâs a rewrite of a chapter I posted in June!
Speed Lacewing was disoriented, looking up at the wooden ceiling.Â
She barely remembered how she got here. All she remembered was being surrounded by greenery, as well as her own desperationâŚand what elseâŚ?Â
âWell, good morning. Or, afternoon, I should say.â.Â
She turned to the woman next to her.Â
âWhere are my manners? My name is Pearl. Iâm a nurse for the Rose Thorns. You are currently on our ship. I take it youâre another defector from Repliforce?â.Â
âHuh? I-I guess-yeah.â Lacewing stammered, slowly sitting up.Â
Her wings were immensely tired from flying all night.Â
Fear filled her chest again, still wondering how sheâs be treated for deserting the missionâŚespecially after what she found out just a few days agoâŚ
âI just got back from the Kagikira forestâŚmy unit was stationed thereâŚâ she told the nurse.Â
âInteresting. Need anything? Energy can? Water? Tea?â.Â
âNahâŚwell, okay, maybe an energy can.â.Â
âAlright.â; the nurse got up; she wore a white armor dress that looked similar to that of the Reploid nurses she had frequent encounters with, but with a more rustic, vintage pirate feel.Â
She normally hated being cooped up, but it was better than feeling like she was being hunted down.Â
The nurse came back with an e-can.Â
âNeed anything else?â.Â
She eventually left the lacewing Reploid there.
Pearl came quickly stepping to the door.Â
âHello, Necrobat. Did you get hurt again?â.Â
Lacewing moved a bit; she saw a looming, purple bat Reploid in a black jacket, which had a similar pirate-esque vibe that the nurseâs armor dress donned.Â
âHey, yeah, uh, no! But-squeak!-I need to talk to her. Apparently, my girlfriend knows her!â.Â
âOh, really? Well, I canât just let you in here. Maybe bring her here?â.Â
âAlright, whatâs goinâ on?â; Speed couldnât stand it any longer.Â
She walked over to the door-.Â
Pearl was thrown against the wall as the other Reploid flew towards the lacewing one.Â
The sun shone upon the Rose Thornsâ ship. The sea helped provide a cool breeze. Mind Rat inhaled the salty air, then exhaled. He had been thankful that the Rose Thorns let him climb aboard. And he was glad X joined them, giving him the courage to sojourn there himselfâŚit had been quite peaceful here, in spite of the war that would soon be ensuing.Â
He needed to figure out what to do from here.Â
He hadnât read the minds of the commanders or some of the bigger soldiers. He could make an attempt right now. Yes, that would be best for everyone-.
The door leading to the lower decks was smashed wide open.Â
Everyone saw a bug reploid-like a dragonfly or some form of moth-dash out and look behind her.Â
And behind her was a furious Dark Necrobat.Â
âGET BACK HERE! Squeak-squeak!â.Â
Zero ran over to him, but he was already airborne, chasing the other reploid.Â
The other reploid turned around and began shooting a buster at him.Â
He flew upwards and maneuvered in the air, but she was rapid, and he had barely dodged them all, before, with frenetic thinking, he stopped time. However, a buster shot made its way into the purple field surrounding him, and with that, he was blasted into the frigid, brackish waters. Â
Mind Rat took a moment to try and recognize her. Then it hit him: this was Speed Lacewing! One of the combat soldiers for the Guerilla Unit!Â
She was known to be quite a virago, in spite of being an excellent soldier and marksman. She would say particularly negative, and even cruel, things of the âgirlierâ women, and respected soldiers more than she did the navigators, nurses and mechanics, thinking of their positions as the âlameâ jobs.Â
So, why did Necrobat have a particular grudge against this woman? Most of those whom had made an attempt to track him in an attempt to rid the world of Sigmaâs creations and raise the peopleâs opinion on Repliforce were usually the commanders alone, though a few soldiers had attempted to get the job done, such as Spiral Pegasus and Shock Macaw. They had also attempted to track down a mutant formed in Ukraine.Â
Heeled footsteps thumped on the floorboards of the deck.Â
âWhatâs going on!?â Marty exclaimed.Â
Pearl came rushing out as well.Â
âDark Necrobat just barged in and started going after her!â.Â
âThe defector we just picked up!â; Pearl panted. âSaid she was an acquaintance of Porcupine.â.Â
Sharp Porcupine and all the other engineers followed suit.Â
The porcupine Reploid gasped, completely stunned.Â
âPorcupine, you know her!?â Antonio inquired.Â
Her limbs were locked in shock, a gesture of being taken abackâŚ
It had all happened so fast. One minute, the other Reploid was panting, buster out in fear, shaking.Â
The next minute and there he was: holding her in a grip, about to sink his fangs into her neck.Â
âNecrobat, stop!â; Necrobat looked up.Â
It was X. He made his way down the mast and went to him.Â
Mind Rat made his way there as well, as did Marty and Zero.Â
âI did not join this crew to allow more violence to happen! And neither did you!â X exclaimed.Â
âNo! This woman, this cockroach, bullied the love of my life!â Necrobat yelled.Â
âHuh?â; then X got a closer look at her.Â
âWhat the hell are you talking about!?â Zero raised his voice.Â
âHey, I-Iâve seen you beforeâŚwith Sting Chameleon! You were his best friendâŚâ.Â
âYes! And now she-â;Â POW!Â
With him being distracted, Lacewing was able to wriggle one of her arms free and uppercut him, before she wriggled the other one out and pointed her buster at him.Â
Mind Rat shut his eyes and focused, sneaking his way into the bat reploidâs mind to have a peak at what he was thinking currentlyâŚ
âWellâŚthere was a lacewing reploid that I tried to be friends withâŚshe seemed really lonely, and I knew that feeling before I got to know my fellow engineersâŚâ.Â
ââŚbut she told me she wasnât interestedâŚand that would have been fine! IfâŚif she hadnât started bullying me with themâŚâ.Â
âThatâs it!â Mind Rat concluded internally.Â
Dark Necrobat was about to attempt to use dark hold again, but X got in front of him.Â
âLetâs talk this out!â He yelled.Â
âNo! She made Porcupineâs life a living hell!â.Â
âPorcupine, get a control of your boyfriend!â Electric Monarch exclaimed.Â
But Sharp Porcupine was frozen, staring blankly nowâŚ
âPorcupine!â Antonio yelled.Â
âBlade, why isnât she doing anything!?â Monarch exclaimed frantically. Â
âWe are not helping her! Especially with how she treated us! What Necrobat is doing is justice served!â Blade Axolotl retorted, crossing his arms.Â
âHuh?â The other mechanics said in unison.Â
âDark Necrobat, this wonât resolve anything!â Mind Rat scorned.Â
âHello, Speed Lacewing of the Guerilla Unit.â.Â
âGuerilla Unit!?â Electric Monarch yelled in disgust; she quickly flew over.Â
âYou didnât tell meâŚthat this womanâŚworked for the Guerilla Unit in RepliforceâŚâ She growled at Marty.Â
âAnd whatâs wrong with that, you some kinda hippie?â Speed Lacewing sneered.Â
âNow everyone, calm down!â X exclaimed.Â
âThere is a reason why she is here! Lacewing, state your caseâŚâ Mind Rat spoke.Â
Zero and Marty wrestled the infuriated bat Reploid away from her.Â
âYou traitors! She tormented my lover!â Dark Necrobat yelled, his voice shrouded in pure, vengeful fury.Â
Speed Lacewing looked around her, debating just shooting them all at this point in a panic.Â
Then she noticed somethingâŚ
A familiar quilled Reploid walked over to Dark Necrobat.Â
Marty and Zero glanced at her.Â
She seemed to say something quietly to them.Â
âOh, so you can watch him suck her energy and kill her!?â Zero burst out.Â
âShe continued speaking softly to themâŚand they let him goâŚ
But instead of charging at Lacewing once more, heâŚseemed to heed her.
She reached up and he bent over a bitâŚand she caressed his faceâŚ
Lacewing looked at Sharp Porcupine.Â
She lookedâŚtired and sad.Â
âWaitâŚâ; she said, and ran over; immediately, Dark Necrobat got into a battle stance, his wings unfurling.Â
Speed Lacewing asked the bat ReploidâŚ
âYouâre dating Sharp Porcupine?â.Â
âYesâŚâ; he stepped over to her, fists quaking.Â
âAnd youâŚâ; he inhaled. âhave a lot of explaining to do.â He panted.Â
âIs-is-what are you-â.Â
âStop playing dumb!â.Â
âEnough!â Marty yelled.Â
âSharp, Necro, our office! Now!â.Â
The couple obeyed, following the couple nervously.Â
âWhat did you do?â; Lacewing looked up; it was the eyepatched Reploid that picked her up!Â
âIâŚI donât knowâŚâ; but deep down, she knew she would probably be owing the engineer a ton of apologies.Â
