  Pretty little rosebush

  I know it’s a cliche, but I’ll

  Write about you anyway

  There are little other ways to describe

  Her petals and thorns

  How beautiful her petals are

  And how her thorns make you bleed

  But we still plant gardens full of roses

  And give them to those we love

  Rosebush lured me in with her sirens song

  A lovely tune, so I sang along

  Her thorns criss-crossing in my wake

  Not thorns anymore

  Barbed wire

  I’m stuck

  I don’t notice at first, though, I’m transfixed

  By the rose petals, who would’ve

  Guessed that I’d be attracted to all things

  Bright and colorful and perfect and lovely

  And yet I never would’ve loved them at all

  If not for your sirens song

  By the time I realize I am trapped

  It is far too late

  I’m surrounded by roses

  The thorns rake into my sides, ripping my flesh

  Shredding

  My skin

  Blood falls and you blame me for

  Staining your petals

  When I apologize you say

  Okay

  But when my flesh is torn apart again

  You say it’s my fault and I’m

  So sorry

  But then when I blame your thorns you say

  The blood is yours

  And you’re bleeding for me

  How can I deny

  Such a pretty little lie

  How can I argue with a goddess

  Sitting atop her throne of sweet petals

  You know they only smell sweet to keep you coming

  Back for more

  I was never fond of roses

  Until someone told me they were the only flower you could ever truly loved

  I loved the first ones I saw and they blamed me for

  Never loving them right

  I have never loved before

  And I never will again
