I think it starts off as morbid curiosity when he's first mechanized to test out the limits of his body. Later on, he just does it cause he can. Or for shock value. Does it end up with him dead 85% of the time? Maybe.

I DO 100% see her as Jonny's and Nastya's mom in my hc, though for some of the others it gets a bit complicated?

Nastya for example, got mechanized at a pretty young age canonically (17 I'm pretty sure), and I like to think that Jonny met the doc at a pretty young age too (maybe around 17 also?) but got mechanized later on, maybe in his 20s. For those reasons, I do view Carmilla as their adoptive mom, seeing as she basically took them in when they were pretty young.

As for the others (namely Ivy, Ashes, Brian, and TS) I'm not entirely sure? Yes, she likely was thousands of years old when they were all mechanized (minus the Toy Soldier), but I feel like that was the case between a lot of the mechs too, y'know? Jonny was likely hundreds or thousands of years old when he got Tim mechanized, yet I don't think anyone views him as Tim's dad.

We could say she's their mom on the basis of having them mechanized. However, I do think it's a bit unclear on whether or not she was the one who mechanized Tim personally. It's vague enough for people to decide whether she was the one to do it or not (I think. I could be wrong.) BUT it seems to me like she wasn't around when Tim got mechanized (I THINK. But I like this hc so I'm sticking with it for now). So, with that in mind, one of the other crew members mechanized him, which would mean that her mechanizing them wouldn't inherently make her their mom figure.

And I don't really see why that would inherently make her their mom? Especially since a lot of them were adults when they met her, I don't think surgery necessarily equals a new parental figure. (Though I do get it from the perspective of her sort of being like, their creator, in a way. Maybe.)

That being said! I can see her still adopting that role due to a lot of them being vulnerable when first mechanized. Like a "I've already adopted two of them already, may as well take in the whole group" kind of deal, BUT IDK.... Again, unlike my Nastya and Jonny hcs, a lot of the other mechs I mentioned were adults when they first met and got mechanized by her; while being an adult doesn't necessarily mean you can't have parental figures, I don't fully grasp why she'd be every mech's collective mom figure.

Ivy maybe, since she doesn't have her memories Carmilla would essentially be the only parental figure she has. Ashes too maybe? Yes, they were around 20 when they got mechanized, but their only parental figure, Uncle Mickey, was a scumbag, so I can sort of see it. I can see the Toy soldier being included too, since its creator doesn't seem to have been great to it, and I think it would enjoy being included either way. But why would Brian be included? He was basically a grown ass man with a job before getting launched into space, I'm pretty sure.

And those are the mechs we're certain she's mechanized (minus TS), what about Tim? Or Marius and Raphaella? We're not even certain she's met them, but I like to think that she came back to the ship every so often. But either way, I don't really get why she'd be considered a mom figure to those three? They were adults as well, and I don't see any reason for them to view her as anything besides their captain (and possible found family, but that doesn't necessarily mean their mom, I think? I think you can still have a found family situation without that.)

I will say my thoughts on this aren't final!! I'm sure there's some Mechanisms' lore I might've missed or fucked up completely, and this isn't me dogging on anyone that views her as everyone's mom either, I also enjoy that hc sometimes! (and I'm pretty sure her creator also views her that way?) These are just my 2 cents on the whole idea and I'm curious to hear everyone else's thoughts on it :]

Jonny didn't really have toys growing up, too busy trying to survive to care for them.

So when Tim gifts him one during his regression, an elephant plush with curly fur, he's instantly attached to it.

He spends his time staring at it, feeling through its fur and features, and he holds it close to himself.

Once he's back to his normal state, he throws the plush to a corner in his room, denying it had ever happened. And it stays there for a while. Until a particularly bad night were he finds himself bringing it back to his bed and running his fingers through its fur again.
