The Gaang (season three post boiling rock arc edition) is all sitting together in the Western Air Temple. Zuko is absent bc he is off being angsty. Aang sits in the middle. Katara sits on Aang’s right, and Suki is on Aang’s left, with Sokka standing behind Suki. Momo sits by Suki, and Appa lays on the other side of Momo. Toph completes the sort-of-circle by standing in between Appa and Katara.

“Zuko is in pain, and we need to help him get back together with Mai,” Aang says to the group.

Katara has a disapproving face. “No, we don’t. Zuko never asked for help, and last time I saw Mai, she was trying to kill us. We shouldn’t get involved.”

Aang says, “OK, you guys probably don’t know this, but I never knew my parents, and Monk Gyatsu, who was like a father to me, died 100 years ago—”

“YEAH WE KNOW,” everyone interrupts Aang.

“What, do I talk about it a lot,” Aang asks, looking around at the group.

By this point, Sokka has ceased standing and is now squatting behind Suki.

Aang says, “It doesn’t matter, the point is we can’t let daddy Zuko and Mai stay broken up.”

Toph, talking in Aang’s direction, asks, “So we’re just dispensing with subtext now?”

“Yes,” Aang replies, “this gang is my family, was that not clear? Zuko’s my dad, Sokka and Suki and my uncle and aunt.” Toph and Katara are looking at Aang (er, Toph is facing Aang at least).

Looking away, Aang continues, “Katara’s my mom.”

“WHAT,” Katara asked, looking at Aang in shock.

Aang, who has anime/manga sweat, says, “What?! What did I say?”

“You said, ‘Katara is my mom,’” Katara says, deeply disturbed.

Aang brushes it off and says, “Eh, nobody said anything!! We don’t have time for this, Katara! Now, who‘s going to help me parent trap Zuko and Mai?”
