I’m consuming Max Steel as fast as I am able to but I keep pausing to spin about it. Because I can’t stop thinking about @dreamsy990 and your friend’s additions to that one post about Dredd and the “Enemy to Parent” ao3 tag.
I’m only ten episodes deep but I need to go faster because I’m haunted by a potential Time Travel “Fix-It” AU where Dredd gets yeeted back in time by some other one-off villain’s plot as collateral. And, like he ends up in his old body a week or so before the day Max moves to Copper Canyon.
Because even if, somehow, this man still doesn’t know Max Steel is Max McGrath, it’d be pretty easy to get alerted to this spike in Turbo energy a second time and, like, do better surveillance about it. Max’s little panic-chase with Butch and Co wasn’t subtle if you knew to pay attention.
There’s probably the immediate impulse to just snatch him off the street. He’s not even Ultralinked! He has no armor, no weapons, no pending reinforcements he trusts. It’d be a cakewalk, if a little messy because of his uncontrolled bursts of power.
…but he’s not Max Steel yet. The makings of a hero are there for sure, but they’re buried beneath panic and confusion. This is the most vulnerable Max McGrath will ever be again, supervillain attacks notwithstanding.
And Dredd? He changes course.
AU where this smooth talking CEO’s limo pulls up to the curve and offers to help Max with his “problem.”
Get him to their offices, away from anywhere he’d cause further damage (or get scooped up by any bad influences) to talk him through what’s happening to him. It’s not a problem at all, actually. It’s an opportunity!
In fact, he could be a great help to them. They’d be thrilled to have him on as an intern! He doesn’t have to, of course. THI has the technology needed to help him return to a normal life regardless, bar some regular check-ins to offload his excess. But they’d really like him to think about this opportunity!
He even talks to the company’s founder—his father’s old friend, apparently—on speaker over a phone who impresses upon him how this could help save lives. That what he’d be doing with them would be important work and that Turbo energy is the future. That they’re invested in his future. In continuing his father’s work.
And Max? Max is tired and he’s just had the most terrifying day of his life. Of course he takes the out. He signs the papers and sits in a weird chair that has him gritting his teeth through the energy extraction. But when it’s over?
He feels a little shaky, but an intern comes in with some lunch and offers him her jacket. He gets calmly walked through what his schedule’s going to look like going forward (coming in before and after school every day, as well as intermittently on weekends like they’re appointments) until their R&D teams can come up with something more convenient for him.
For now they’ve got this weird anklet thing made for him to help “keep his output off the radar”, whatever that means, and some toaster-sized battery-looking things he can fill if his output spikes too hard in the middle of the night. He didn’t even think about that, but he’s glad he won’t short out the whole city block in his sleep. Which is a thing they told him he could probably do.
He also gets another phone call from the founder who thanks him personally for his contributions. Says that if Max ever needs anything, he can come to them. It’s the least they can do.
He’s so fucking exhausted when he gets dropped off at home that when he tells his mom over dinner that he got hired on the spot for an internship, he forgets to tell her where.
—
Basically an AU where Naught and some THI employees have to keep Miles Dredd’s new pet project away from all their very obvious supervillain shit. While also beating N-Tek back with a broom to keep him a secret for as long as possible.
But Max is thriving. Between making new friends at school, learning a fuck to about science from the internship, and getting a lot of validation from his over-the-phone mentor, Max thinks he’s doing pretty well for himself after the move.
If only his mom would worry a little less about the whole thing.
—
(Somewhere, deep in N-Tek’s hidden base, a dormant Ultralink stirs and dozes and stirs again. On and off. Waiting.)
(He won’t have to wait for very long.)
memes that might only make sense to me and @theond
Rewatching Max Steel S1E3, "Come Together Part 3", for writing fanfic, and I happened to pause and discovered that 2D Miles Dread has a freaking parallelogram for a head.
Don't believe me?
Parallelogram
series where the drama peaked in the past and in the present it is a mystery to be unraveled fucking SLAP dude. (spoilers ahead for Max Steel 2013) yes Forge, James, and Miles all made N Tek together, Miles betrayed them for Makino, then Forge, Kat, Jefferson, and Molly all saw Jim die in the final battle, but nevermind that because this teenager has to pass his Driving Test

C.M. Top 10: Villains who got more than what they bargained for.💀
There's an old saying that never ends, "be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it." & these villains got what they wanted & more, but with a price to pay in the end.
Here's 10 of the top villains who wanted more in power, wealth & whatever their dark hearts desired. & not to mention something that's gonna bite them in the ass sooner or later in the end.
What's your dark wish? Sadly you'll be the judge on that when you pay the ultimate price at the end of that bridge my friend...
Also I won't leave any details on why. So it prevents a bit of spoilers on possible new characters. But trust me their ends were not a pretty one.
