Dude chased after her in a snowstorm with nothing but a tank top and jeans and a gun that might not even work after she was abducted by God knows who or what. I think he cared!

Yes, Mike's honesty is nonexistent when you get the best relationship status between him and Jess, and that's horrible, but even if that happens, he always chases after her and takes her "death" VERY hard.

Mike loves women. He loves their bodies. He's a player. But I think he really WAS falling for Jess, whether he even realized it himself or not.

We also know Mike isn't the bravest guy. He's getting scared by birds and shower curtains. Yet he risks his life for Jess. He would've just stood put or went back to the lodge for help if he didn't care; maybe try to call someone on Jess' phone. But he didn't. He chased after her.

Not to mention he tortures Josh when he thinks he's the one who killed her. You think he did that just for the sake of it? Or got pissed off at Josh for provoking him about her, just for no reason?

And then the police interview if Jess dies. He's absolutely defeated and devastated. He takes her death harder than anyone's throughout the entire game.

It was a little crazy, really, the way her...everything stopped hurting the second she saw him there beside her, eyes shut, mouth open, chest horribly, horrifically, horrifyingly still. One second she was in agony and the next - poof - there was only adrenaline, her body heavy but her own as she rolled onto her knees and took his face in her hands.

"Don't be dead," Jess heard herself saying from somewhere very, very far away, her ears ringing with the sudden rush of blood to her head, "Michael, I swear to God, if you're dead, I will kill you..."

In the movies, she knew, you smacked someone to snap them out of it, to startle them back to the land of the living; down there in the dark it was a different story, the kind of nightmare where she couldn't move fast enough, and so it was all she could do to pinch his cheeks, shake his shoulders, pry his eyes open with the very tips of her fingers. And still, his chest...
