Haitian Migrants are still crossing the Rio Grande River. Some are making the trip back to Mexico - resigned to not being able to claim asylum in the US and being deported back to Haiti - where even less opportunities await. I know there is lot of politics surrounding this #migrantcrisis but what ever happened to: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" My father was welcomed here at Ellis Island. He wasn’t turned back or chased away by horses.
