The Backyard Upgrade I Didnāt Know I Needed
Lately, Iāve been thinking a lot about how my backyard feelsā¦Ā unfinished. Itās not that itās uglyāitās justĀ there. A patch of grass, a sad little patio set, and zero personality. I want a space where I can actuallyĀ liveĀ outside, not just glance at it through the window while doing dishes.
Then, last weekend, my neighbor threw a barbecue on their gorgeous new deck. It wasnāt just functionalāit was anĀ extensionĀ of their home, with built-in seating, subtle lighting, and this beautiful composite material that looked like wood but without the maintenance drama. Suddenly, my sad concrete slab felt even sadder.
I ended up down a Google rabbit hole (as one does) and stumbled ontoĀ Supreme Deck Builders of St. CharlesāĀ Services page. They had this breakdown of different deck stylesāmulti-level, wraparound, even ones with pergolasāand it got me imagining whatĀ myĀ yard could be. Iām not sure I need anything fancy, but the idea of a low-profile, modern deck with space for a fire pit?Ā Yes.
Right now, Iām just sketching ideas on napkins and saving inspo pics. But for the first time, Iām actually excited about my backyard instead of resigned to its blandness. Maybe this summer, Iāll stop justĀ lookingĀ at the yard and startĀ livingĀ in it.
