A-T-5 086 Chris Rea Josephine (1985 Album Version)
Half of the above image has been printed on Test Pressing tees and sweats, although I don't think they're currently available https://store.testpressing.org/merchandise. DJ Snoopy appears on absolutely anything that can be printed on, such as this
Chris Rea (not to be confused with the tory donor) has passed away at the age of 74 "Josephine" was written for his daughter. The first version of the song recorded in December 1984 and included on Chris Rea's 1985 album Shamrock Diaries. The original 1985 single version of the song is more uptempo than the album version, it feels quite different. The single got to number three on the Dutch Top 40 in the Netherlands and sold well in France and Belgium. In 1988 WEA (Warner Brothers) who had purchased Magnet Records replaced the original version of the song with a remixed version that sounds nearer to the rockier single version. The 2019 Remaster re-issue reinstates the original album version, as it should be
All in all eight distinct official versions of "Josephine" have been released. "Josephine (La Version Française)" coincides with the moment British youth begin taking the drug ecstasy with great enthusiasm. Andrew Weatherall shares his own ecstasy epiphany on the making of Screamadelica documentary, 'I went from listening to Throbbing Gristle's "Hamburger Lady" to dancing to "Josephine" by Chris Rea…that’s how strong that drug is' "Josephine (La Version Française)" sometimes called "(Extended) French Re-Record", "French Edit", "French Version" or "French Mix" was recorded after a conversation Chris Rea had had with a record executive in Paris. It was produced by Chris Rea and Stewart Eales, who began working together on the On The Beach album. As I mentioned above the song had been popular in France, reaching number seven on France's singles chart. The new club version of "Josephine" was released in France in 1987 (as "Josephine (Version Longue)"
Champion Records A&R man and DJ, Paul Oakenfold had got his hands on the club friendly re-record of "Josephine" that had been released in France and spun it at his legendary nights Future (at The Sanctuary) and then Spectrum (at Heaven). Chris Rea's 1986 single "On The Beach" and "Josephine" are considered a classics of the early Balearic scene
