reminder that capitalism is what makes games worse, as it is the biggest enemy of art
I had underestimated how bad some mobile games have gotten; Whenever I use Duolingo, there's this Township ad that hss this Age of Empires/Rollercoaster Tycoon type of vibe, but doesn't actually feature anything from the ad in the game.
As I did like the game from the ad, I actually tried to look up a game similar to the ad and ended up at this game called My Mini Mart which featured the actual gameplay mechanics from the Township ad. I had a feeling it was gonna be "freemium" with micro transactions, but wasn't prepared for the fact there was gonna be an ad break what felt like every thirty seconds!
I didn't want to pay for an ad free version of the game, but eventually gave up and deleted the entire app as I was tired of the constant ad breaks that featured games exactly like the one I was playing and so many ads where the skip button wouldn't work properly.
The whole experience made me feel like I was a cog in the profit machine of what felt like an endless pyramid scheme worth of mobile games full of misleading ads.
Fortunately I still have Age of Empires, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and even similar games like Caesar II and Age of Mythology on CD to play on my computer, but it is disappointing that I couldn't enjoy a normal game without it trying to generate as much profit as it could from me.
How did we get here? Did the economy really get this bad or have (mobile) gaming companies gotten more greedy?
Games are supposed to be a form of escapism or any way of unwinding from this capitalist hellhole that we live in, not contribute to it! Mobile gaming has become such a luxurious hobby, it seems.
Call of Duty Fans In 2022 Be Like:
Don’t believe me? Check out The Act Man’s video on YouTube on why Call of Duty: Vanguard is bad, he said it.
People arguing about Seraphine “deserving” to be released with an Ultimate skin. Here’s the thing tho, Riot now have the excuse to charge more for new champs and we should be pushing back against that and the influx of more micro transactions in the game. Fight the real enemy instead of Seraphine fans.

Remember when Bethesda first did paid mods and we rightfully gave them shit for it
But now they did paid mods again but with a different name and people want it added to fallout 76, starfield and the next elder scrolls
Proving the point the game industry will push bad consumer practices till they seem normal
Hey gamers, if you overthrow capitalism, you'll also be getting rid of micro-transactions. Just something to think about.
Animal Crossing Countdown Challenge
52.- Will you be sharing your town with someone else?
I don’t think so. I’m the only user of my current Switch.
51.- What feature do you wish you could take out of the game.
I would take micro-transactions and loot-boxes out of AC: Pocket Camp.
Now, if we’re talking about something more realistic, (as even Nintendo is too fond of the gacha-gravvy-train to let it go so easily) I'd get rid of the questionnaire system used to determine your appearance and hairstyle.
That’s one New Leaf system I definitely don’t enjoy, as it makes customization unnecessarily contrived.
...But I already mentioned that in a previous question. 😅 Well, I double down on that, because I really don’t like that system! 😡
