One of Two in Battle Creek

This is an eastbound Amtrak Blue Water, number 364, making its station stop in Battle Creek. The trains have 4400 horses on each end, an embarrassment of riches. I reckon that much is needed to go 110 MPH as they do on this line between Porter, Indiana, and Kalamazoo.

This stretch of tracks here at the Amtrak station are jointly owned—by the Grand Trunk (now CN, which this train will be taking from here toward Port Huron) and the Michigan Central (now NS or Amtrak, I'm not sure which, maybe owned by the state of Michigan).

I popped downtown for the Art Hop this evening. Crossing the former Michigan Central at North Park Street, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Blue Water

When I drove to work today, I had to park on the other side of campus due to an event. As soon as I was out of the car I heard Amtrak train 365, so ran over to track side to grab some shots.

Wolverine Super Moon: the Animation

An eastbound Amtrak train number 252, a Wolverine, is speeding through Galesburg, Michigan. The moon is just past full (at 99.7% illumination) back on November 5th 2025.

The town of Galesburg is just east of Kalamazoo on the former Michigan Central Railroad, part of the New York Central System.

Killing Time, Part Three

I had some time to kill (while my car got worked on) and was able to shoot a few Amtrak trains in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was a brisk, bright morning and I tried to capture some fall color.

This is a westbound Blue Water (365) near the campuses of Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University. The line was once the Michigan Central, part of the New York Central system (then Penn Central and Conrail). It now is Amtrak's own line.

Coaling Tower/Blue Water

Amtrak number 365, the Blue Water, is seen hustling toward Chicago, threading the legs of an ancient coaling tower of the Michigan Central/New York Central.

As stated in an earlier post, this tower is located along Highway 12 a couple of miles east of Michigan City, Indiana, along the Michigan Central/New York Central.
