Good day Mr. Flanagan! Have you heard of Blackwater: The Complete Caskey Family Saga by Michael McDowell?
Because it’s so up your alley! Multi-generational Southern Gothic. Flooded Alabama town. Matriarchs, secrets, hauntings that aren’t quite ghosts. It has the same sort of atmospheric dread as Midnight Mass and the emotional weight of The Haunting of Hill House.
The structure’s kind of perfect, too... Six short novels that could be a 6–8 episode limited series. I found it while digging into legacy-themed stories for a script I’m working on, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how perfect it would be in your hands.
If you’re ever scrambling for an idea, I think you would do this series justice!
I have indeed read McDowell's Blackwater saga and absolutely loved those books. If a chance to adapt them presents itself, I'd certainly be interested.
