The celebration of the marriage between Wen Qing and Hanguang Jun is attended by the every major player in the cultivation world. Some minor ones, too. Sect leaders and their heirs, notable disciples, war heroes, even a rogue cultivator or two â Wei Wuxian knows he saw Mianmian toasting the new couple with a smile she must have learned to hold as a woman in Lanling.
But that's the question, the thought whispered behind brocade sleeves and leering grins: How "new" can the couple be? There is, after all, a child. A child who looks to be maybe two or three years old. Conceived during the war? Before? Is it true he was found in the work camps along with the rest of the bride's family?
The couple toasted to Wei Wuxian at the opening of the banquet. The savior of their son. Lan Zhan, of course, drank tea. Wen Qing poured cups of Emperor's Smile. Wei Wuxian has never hated the taste more. Never loved it more, either.
When the newly weds retire to the bridal chamber â it's just the Jingshi, garishly decorated with red paper blessings, the bed sheets garnished with dates and jujubes â Wei Wuxian snags as many bone-white jars as he can fit in his arms and bails down the mountain to Caiyi Town. Jiang Cheng finds him somewhere in the middle of his third bottle, takes it, finishes it. He mumbles something about a comb, but they don't really talk any more than that. They just drink. Drink until sitting high up on the inn roof becomes inadvisable. Until getting down is even worse. Until the dark clouds that have been hovering on the horizon move in, open up, and the rain washes the tear tracks away for good.

songxuexiao? mianqing? zhuiyi? <3<3<3 (okay that's all from mdzs... probably)
Gifs hate me right now so I'll just be posting the ship and my thoughts.
Songxuexiao
What made you ship it?
Frankly fan creations are to blame for this. I used to be more of a straight up songxiao shipper but would run into songxuexiao art and fics and just kind of grew to like it more and more.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
The smut fics. The tragedy of it all. I have rewatched the untamed twice since getting into The untamed and I'm always hoping for a good ending and become sad when I don't get it.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Not that I can really think of.
Mianqing
What made you ship it?
I'm gay and these two are hot. But in seriousness that moment that Mian Mian stood up to her clan made me like her a lot.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
Usually shippers seem to be in favor of Wen Qing getting a happy ending. Love that her happy ending is getting a girlfriend/wife.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I don't think this ship is popular enough to have many opinions on sadly. I guess liking this more than some other Wen Qing ships is my unpopular opinion.
Zhuiyi (Hell yeah the ship that lead me to wagbfm!)
What made you ship it?
This piece of fanart. I was just looking for things about Lan Sizhui growing up in the burial mounds and found that and have shipped it since.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
They are just so soft and cute.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Lan Sizhui tops.
Tell me about songxiao darling (unless someone else has already asked) and also... mianqing đ
HI đđâ€ïž perfect timing someone JUST asked me about songxiao right here
GAME
Do I ship it: YEAH!!! I DO !!!
What made me ship it: Absolute gorgeous fanart of the two of them holding hands with a caption that mentioned that they were discussing medicine... I really need to find it and reblog this post with it lol
Favorite things: They're both headstrong, talented women who are at one point complete social outcasts yet didn't roll over and take it and instead kept on doing their own thing. Masters of their own fate. Both interested in medicine which means they can have a garden together đđđđ I also love the dynamic of stern and scary with easily flustered and prone to emotion. It's really cute and I think they deserve a little cottage together that doubles as a clinic. But that's just me
Unpopular opinion: idk if any even EXIST lol just that Mianmian has 2 hands!! I guess!! And she should use them to Hold Women

âHow was the party?â Lan Wangji asks Wen Qing when she arrives home on Saturday afternoon, and he can tell the moment she walks through the door that somethingâs up. He looks beyond her shoulder to spot Luo Qingyang following her in, and he relaxes. He likes Luo Qingyang, truly and genuinely, and though heâs not typically fond of unexpected visitors, how could he be upset to see her? âMianmian,â he greets, more warmly than he would greet anyone else who isnât his wife or Wei Wuxian.
âHi Wangji,â she says with a sweet smile up at him. âI hope you donât mind-â
âYou know youâre always welcome in our house, donât ever apologize,â Wen Qing reminds her before Lan Wangji can say precisely the same. âWe have news for you,â she then says to him, and he canât help but blink at the barely-restrained aggression in her tone.
He reaches out to take the shopping bag from Luo Qingyangâs arms with an inquisitive noise in the back of his throat. The pair of them follow him into the kitchen, and when he sets the bag down with a rustle of paper and a glance back at them he catches them in the middle of communicating something between them with nothing more than sharp glances in his direction and thinned lips.
âWhat happened?â he asks with no small amount of alarm - considering the panic heâd felt over the party in the first place, heâs not inclined to think that any news they might have to give him together the day after will be anything good.
âWei Wuxian is definitely gay.â Wen Qing says it like ripping off a bandaid, sharp and quick, and Lan Wangji so thoroughly appreciates his wife and her no-nonsense attitude in that moment that he can hardly breathe. âMianmianâs Family - theyâre the painters he shares Yiling Collective with, the theater director at the performing arts center in town, and Wei Wuxian.â
âHe was there?â Lan Wangji asks when he feels like he can breathe again. Heâs not sure what he would have done if heâd gone to the party with them and seen Wei Wuxian sitting there, surrounded by part of their little underground community in such a way that there could be absolutely no doubt as to his place in it, but it likely wouldnât have been very dignified.
âNo,â Luo Qingyang says apologetically and Lan Wangji exhales carefully. âBut Uncle Xingchen had to run out to the studio for something and he said A-Ying was still in his side of the studio moping around. Uncle invited him to come but he said he didnât want to show up at the party all sad and accidentally spoil our coming out. He started telling us about the piece he saw on the workbench, and when he described it to us Qing-jie knew for sure that my âcousinâ he kept mentioning was your Wei Wuxian. I didnât even realize you were down there working with him until last night!â
Lan Wangji stares into the space between their shoulders and just..tries to think.
Wei Wuxianâs eyes come to mind first, laughing and intense in equal measure, heavy whenever they rest on him for any reason. His hands, never straying butâŠlingering, on the rare occasions Wei Wuxian finds a reason to touch him. His blushes, his praises, the way each image heâs made of Lan Wangji yet has been done with so much delicate care that it makes him want to blush just to think of them.Â
Heâd mentioned the end of their allotted time together twice within roughly 30 seconds of each other yesterday, and the reminder had settled uncomfortably under Lan Wangjiâs ribs and stayed there, sharp as a razor whenever he breathes even today. Had it made Wei Wuxian just as upset? Heâd seemed alright when Lan Wangji had left, but if Xiao Xingchen, who must know him well, had seen him just hours later and reported him back as âmopingâ then what could have happened in the interim except Wei Wuxian thinking about their parting conversation?
âA-Zhan?â Wen Qing prompts quietly, and Lan Wangji forces himself to take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale slowly. âI want you to pursue this,â she tells him when he looks at her, her face as serious as it ever gets. âI want you to be happy. We can stay married, we can adopt A-Yuan, we can do everything we promised. And you can keep Wei Wuxian.â
âHeâs single,â Luo Qingyang adds before Lan Wangji can attempt to get his feet back under him and he narrows his eyes at her - theyâve clearly coordinated this attack, but Luo Qingyang just smiles at him, falsely guileless. âAnd he told Huaisang forever ago that he was going to quit going down to the Corner Bar because hookups just arenât what he wants anymore, heâs looking for more but he doesnât think heâll be able to find it.â
Lan Wangji wants to give him so much more that his knees nearly buckle under the weight of it, though of course only he knows just how close he is to losing his iron-clad control.
âGo sit down,â Wen Qing orders. âThatâs a lot of information for 2pm on a Saturday, just go think about it, alright? Weâre going to make Mianmianâs cookies to take across to Margaret, weâll set some aside for you.â
Lan Wangji frowns a little at that, startled out of his spiraling thoughts by the utterly uncharacteristic decision from Wen Qing to not only bake cookies for someone, but specifically for a woman she claims to barely tolerate. As far as distractions go, itâs surprisingly effective. Itâs Luo Qingyang who clears that up for him too, still smiling sweetly.
âI think Peggyâs one of us,â she says with a wink. âIâve seen her snooping around the outside of the Corner Bar one too many times for her to have been âjust a little lostâ, I want her to know weâre here for her if she needs people to talk to.â
âRight,â Lan Wangji manages, and the only thing that keeps him from mumbling it is all his uncleâs comportment lessons as a boy. âThat isâŠgood. Mn.â He drifts out of the kitchen in a daze to return to his spot on the couch, mind churning uncomfortably through so much new information that he was in no way prepared for. He can hear Wen Qing and Luo Qingyang chatting quietly in the kitchen as they bake, occasionally breaking into laughter, and it soothes him to hear his best friend and her partner free to be themselves. Happy.
This is what heâd promised her. Heâd sworn to her that theyâd keep each other safe, that she could be herself with him and he would be there for her. Encourage her. Heâs only realizing now that heâd never truly anticipated she would need to uphold her promises to do the same for him. Heâd been so certain that he would spend his life entirely celibate, too afraid of being hurt, being in danger, to ever pursue a partner for himself. He had accepted that. But now, with the possibility of not having to accept it in front of him, it feels like his entire world has been flipped upside down. Itâs terrifying. Itâs uncomfortable.
But he knows Wei Wuxian. He trusts him. He, if heâs being honest with himself, loves him already. Desperately, in his own quiet, hidden ways. If pursuing that love means he has to feel like heâs falling up into space then he hopes he never finds his footing again.
âWhat are you going to do?â Wen Qing asks him quietly on Monday morning when he comes downstairs for breakfast, dressed for the day as usual in one of his most comfortable suits. âWill you tell him?â
âI do not know,â he answers honestly. Heâs had a day and a half to think about it, and though he knows he wants Wei Wuxian, wants whatever the man will give him, he has utterly no idea how to go about actually getting it. Wen Qing had come to him on her own to ask him to start âdatingâ, and had proposed their marriage to him as well in her usual no-nonsense way. He has never once, in his entire life, practiced going after the things he wants like this, and certainly never with so much at stake.
Wen Qing, mercifully, leaves him to his thoughts without sharing any of her opinions on the matter (though heâs sure she has plenty). She sends him off at the door at the usual time with a reassuring squeeze to his hand and he appreciates it, the quiet reminder that no matter what happens he still has her. Theyâd promised - support and companionship. Security. He can be safe with her, even if everything else falls apart.Â
When he arrives at the studio itâs to find Wei Wuxian only just arriving to unlock the door, his shoulders a little slumped and his hair tied up sloppily in a red ribbon, much brighter than the faded maroon of his shirt. Lan Wangji thinks of Luo Qingyang saying that heâd been âmopingâ on Friday night, and he wonders with a pang if thatâs still the case.
âWei Ying,â he greets, and the man turns to look at him over his shoulder, already grinning at the sight of him.
âLan Zhan! Right on time as always. Sorry Iâm not already set up, I slept in this morning.â
âNo need, Wei Ying deserves to rest.â
Wei Wuxian just chuckles at that and steps into the studio. The first thing Lan Wangji notices when he steps inside is that the place absolutely reeks of cigarette smoke, and he glances automatically at the ubiquitous little cardboard box that had taken up residence in Wei Wuxianâs pockets a few weeks ago. He hasnât actually seen him smoking, but now he supposes thatâs just because Wei Wuxian does it on his own rather than because he doesnât actually do it at all.
âAhâŠIâll just. Open the windows,â Wei Wuxian says sheepishly with a little wrinkle of his nose thatâs unfairly adorable.
âMn.â
Lan Wangji shuts the door behind them and begins undressing. After having done it so many times he barely hesitates at all, even when it comes to removing his trousers which is still such a new development. His hands are shaking today like they havenât since those first few days of undressing here, but he knows that at least this morning it has very little to do with baring himself for Wei Wuxianâs gaze - which, now that he can be honest with himself about his feelings, had thrilled him just as much as it had terrified him when Wei Wuxian mentioned it during that very first meeting.
âSo - before you get comfortable on the sofa for the day,â Wei Wuxian starts with a smirk to invite him to join in the joke that is âcomfortableâ, as his pose is far from it, âI want to let you know that since Iâll be moving onto the final piece now I need to take some um..measurements. Well a lot of them, actually. To build to scale.â
It hardly takes any consideration at all for Lan Wangji to see the logic of that and he nods easily, unsure why Wei Wuxian is blushing about it.
It takes roughly two minutes more for Lan Wangji to understand the reason for that too.
Heâs been measured for suits his entire life, stood on many a tailorâs podium with his feet spread shoulder-width apart and grit his teeth until the process was over. He has never once had a handsome manâs hands on his bare skin, measuring every conceivable part of his body. Itâs a very different experience, and one he has no interest in ending any time soon.Â
Wei Wuxianâs clever, lovely fingers skim across shoulders, ribs, down his arms, circle around his wristsâŠhis neck. He finds a robinâs egg blue silk ribbon somewhere in all his many scraps of fabric and uses it to tie Lan Wangjiâs hair up for him when it proves to be too inconvenient to ask him to hold it up out of the way in a loose bun on top of his head, and somehow the gentle hold of it at the back of his head, the bottom two thirds of his hair still hanging loose to drape over his shoulders, leaves him feeling more exposed than if it were all still gathered neatly out of the way.
He stands still in the middle of Wei Wuxianâs studio, in front of a mirror heâs never seen before but that Wei Wuxian seems to be using to help with the measuring process, and he settles into the low-simmering arousal of being naked for Wei Wuxian as the man, fully dressed, circles him slowly. Touches him, polite and businesslike but reverent in the same way heâs been every single time heâs ever touched him. Lan Wangji glances down on instinct when Wei Wuxian stops in front of him to measure the breadth of his chest from shoulder to shoulder and his next inhale catches when he sees Wei Wuxianâs sturdy leather boots so close to his own bare feet, a large fold in the stiffened skirt of his apron a hairsbreadth from brushing against his thigh.
Wei Wuxian has forgone his usual clay-stained overalls for the day, dressed instead in worn trousers and a sinfully soft short-sleeved button up, sleeves cuffed over the strong curves of his biceps, all of it haphazardly protected by a softened denim apron that does actually brush Lan Wangjiâs skin in the next moment when Wei Wuxian steps just a centimeter too close. Lan Wangjiâs hands are practically aching with the desire to push it all off him and strip him down as well, even as he thrills at the power dynamic of being so vulnerable in front of Wei Wuxian, still completely put-together and in control of Lan Wangjiâs every movement.
Wen Qingâs question pings helpfully in the front of his mind again when he looks up from the narrow space between them to meet Wei Wuxianâs wide, dark eyes.
What are you going to do?
Wei Wuxianâs fingers twitch on his chest and he swallows once before he leans back to scribble messily in his notebook balanced on the edge of his workbench, the furniture shoved aside for the moment to accommodate the mirror and give them room for Wei Wuxian to circle around him easily. They continue on in silence like that - nothing but their breathing, the occasional creak of leather or the wooden floor, and the slither of the tape measure through Wei Wuxianâs fingers to break it - for almost half an hour before Wei Wuxian finally takes a step back and studies him, color high in his cheeks.
âI have a few more to do,â he says, which Lan Wangji had expected considering he hasnât even done his legs. He nods and follows easily when Wei Wuxian sits down on his stool sandwiched carefully between the mirror and the overladen table that Lan Wangji has spent hours looking at over Wei Wuxianâs shoulder. Heâs meant many times to ask him about the family of statues on the top of it and is tempted to ask now, but whateverâs happening between them right now is..fragile in a way he canât explain, but that he knows he doesnât want to break. He stands silently beside the mirror as Wei Wuxian leans over - stretching out the lean line of his body for Lan Wangji to savor - to drop his tape measure on the workbench and swap it out for a pair of wooden calipers. Lan Wangji canât resist raising an eyebrow when Wei Wuxian clears his throat and gestures vaguely at his hips.
Not that he needs permission, Lan Wangji would give Wei Wuxian anything, but he nods anyway and offers the man his usual quiet but firm, âMn.â The familiar gesture makes Wei Wuxian smile up at him and Lan Wangji slides his hand up the side of the mirror to curl his fingers over the corner of the sturdy wooden frame - heâs afraid his knees will give out from under him if he doesnât.
Wei Wuxianâs hands are visibly trembling as he adjusts the calipers a few times anxiously without bringing them anywhere near Lan Wangjiâs cock (which is not nearly as soft as would be appropriate in a professional setting, though itâs thankfully not hard either) - and then he suddenly reaches into his pocket to draw out a brand new pack of cigarettes to pull one out and pop it between his lips.
What are you going to do?
Lan Wangji reaches out before he can think twice about it to take the lighter from Wei Wuxianâs shaking hands. As Wei Wuxian looks up at him, startled, he maintains steady eye-contact as he flicks the lid back on its hinge.
Spins the wheel under the side of his thumb with a metallic ring.Â
Thereâs a nearly inaudible whoosh as the flame catches, hot and bright in his hand, and then Lan Wangji holds it out at hip height, mere inches from his own pelvis.
If Wei Wuxian wants a light, heâll have to lean in close to get it.
They spend an endless moment blinking at each other, and Lan Wangji thinks in that moment that an understanding of the sort theyâve been dancing around for two months, since the moment they met, finally passes between them. Wei Wuxian lounges sideways slowly, ankles crossed next to Lan Wangjiâs bare feet, elbow resting on the back support of his stool. His calipers dangle carelessly from his relaxed hand as he raises the other hand to hold his cigarette steady between his index and middle fingers as he leans in, in, in - and holds the tip of it to the flame cupped in Lan Wangjiâs fingers.
Lan Wangji tucks one ankle carefully in front of the other and settles in with a relieved little sigh, the weight of years lifted from his shoulders in the moment between Wei Wuxian lighting his cigarette and flickering his heated gaze up to meet his, eyes glinting with the warmth of the flame.Â
Lan Wangji flips the lid of the lighter over to snuff out the fire with another metallic little click, fingers clutching tight around the cool metal of it nestled in his palm. Wei Wuxian breathes deeply, takes the cigarette from his lips, and turns his head to the side to exhale again.
âLan Zhan-â he chokes, his gaze fixed on the bare expanse of wall beside them. âI canât-â
âMy wife is a lesbian,â Lan Wangji blurts, panic moving him to speak bluntly. Heated glances and mutual understanding, one queer man to another, are all well and good, but he also knows that Wei Wuxian is a good man, a righteous man - he wonât step anywhere close to what he sees as an unforgivable breach of trust, but Lan Wangji canât lose him. Not now, not ever. He can force himself to speak clearly for the sake of something so vital. Wei Wuxian will keep him safe. âShe had her coming out just recently. Friday evening.â
Wei Wuxian looks up at him again sharply, eyes wide with quick understanding.
âMianmian?â
âWen Qingâs girlfriend of three months, as of this week.â
Wei Wuxian exhales shakily and takes another fortifying drag off his cigarette - and the moment he does he seems to remember just how it was lit, and by whom, and his cheeks flush the deepest red Lan Wangji has seen on him yet.
âAnd you, Lan Zhan?â
âPleased that my wife has found a lover to make her happy. AndâŠâ Lan Wangji swallows down years of shame, embarrassment, longing for something heâd never hoped to have in order to add, âI believe it is time I allowed myself to find my own.â
Wei Wuxian stares up at him for a breathless eternity, and then in quick succession he tosses his cigarette down to the floor to grind the lit end between his boot and the wood, jerks to his feet, and then his hands are on Lan Wangji again, firmer than before and without the excuse of the tape measure to mask his intention. Lan Wangji releases the mirror and the lighter clatters to the floor beside their feet in favor of having his hands free to reach towards the other man, to cup Wei Wuxianâs jaw, both hands curled tightly against that beloved face so he can pull him in and kiss him with barely-controlled hunger. There isnât an ounce of hesitation left in either of them as their mouths meet, parted and perfect.
Lan Wangji may take a long time to make up his mind, but when itâs made he does nothing by halves; now that he knows what it feels like to have Wei Wuxian melted against his chest, lips soft and open in eager permission for Lan Wangjiâs clumsy, amateur kisses, he knows he can never live happily without it again.
Happy Valentineâs Day!! Here is the super compilation of art I did!
A side note, this was originally going to be called âGoodnight, my Valentineâ but then I slowly stepped out of drawing just sleepy couples. So hereâs a compilation of mostly nighttime couples, but a few other things!
1.) QingMian!
âWen Qing always carries MianMian to bedâ
2.) WangXian!
âI would have drawn them making out but I felt that was too spicyâ
3.) ChengChao!
âWen Chao falls asleep very easily. Jiang Cheng is very strongâ
4.) Jiang Parents! (THEY DESERVED BETTER)
âWeâll be so good this time, Yu.â
5.) XuanLi and Jin Ling!
âGoodnight, my sweet childâ
6.) Junior Quartet Cuddle Buddies!
âThere is nothing gay about cuddling up with your homiesâ
7.) 3zun!
âJiggy falls asleep resting on his beloved Da-Ge and Er-Geâ
8.) Zhing! (My oc Song Zheng , Wen Ning!)
âNothing like going on a date dressed in your pre-death sectâs robesâ
9.) XunYang! ( @wifiwuxians beautiful ship!)
âXue Yangâs gift to Wen Xun was candy and a kissâ
27, any Wen Qing ship! Hope youre having a good day !
Any Wen Qing ship? Oh, anon you spoil me! I have been enjoying WQ/LQY, so here is a little alternate canon take. Prompt âKiss me.â
Luo Qingyang sat at the table beside Wei Wuxian and a-Ning, letting little a-Yuan play with the hilt of her sword, as if this was normal. Normal to have someone from the Jin sect sitting among them. Wen Qing stood in the doorway, watching as Luo Qingyang charmed even Granny with her smile.
âTell me again!â Wei Wuxian exclaimed, leaning towards Luo Qingyang. He seemed brighter and more alive than he had in weeks. Sometimes Wen Qing feared he was keeping himself going with some of the same magic that tied a-Ning to something like life. âYou just took off your outer robe and left?â
âWell, I tossed it down in front of them all,â Luo Qingyang said, and there was a hint of pride in her voice. âI donât wish you could have heard what they were saying, but you know what they are like.â
Wei Wuxianâs face darkened. âI do.â
âI stole a bunch of money and jewelry on my way out,â Luo Qingyang said, moving away from bringing up such memories. Luo Qingyang took from her sleeve a bag and began to empty the contents onto the table. âThis is the least of what they owe you, but I thought it might be a place to start.â
Wen Qing moved forward then, as a-Yuan picked up a polished jade bracelet and put it on with a giggle. Part of her mind was already telling her that Luo Qingyang being here was too much, too good to be true. And now she brought out something that could answer the largest of their worries â enough money to provide the food, housing, warm clothes, and livestock they so desperately needed to survive. It had to be a trap, some scheme the Jin would put together.
Luo Qingyang looked up at her as she approached, her expression full of pride like any Jin, but also something that looked like true caring and a linger of rage, remorse, sorrow... The smile on her face faded in the face of Wen Qingâs (so far) quiet rage.
âJie,â a-Ning tugged on Wen Qingâs robe.
She crouched beside him, giving him her full attention instead, and couldnât stop the smile that came to her face. A-Ning was here and with her. She wanted to hide him where he could never get hurt. And maybe he felt something of the same towards her because he glanced between her and Luo Qingyang.
Ah. He remembered then. What had happened between herself and Luo Qingyang what felt like a millennia before. Maybe she shouldn't have confided in him...
[âŠ]
âKiss me,â Luo Qingyang said this with a smile, but it sounded like a challenge. Wen Qing knew what she wanted. Luo Qingyang wanted someone to meet her where she was and to stand at her side. She was filled with ideas of what was just and righteous.
It was such a temptation Wen Qing wanted to take in and pull close. She wanted to run from the horrible things her family was doing, the horrible things she was being made to take part in. Could Luo Qingyang help her escape? The louder part of her just wanted to forget all of that and kiss a beautiful girl as they all spent the summer together in Gusu. To take a breathe, even for a moment.
As Wen Qing thought, Luo Qingyang moved from where she balanced on a rock, leaning into Wen Qingâs space, standing above her.
Now that she was closer, Wen Qing could see the vulnerability hidden in the challenge. It made Wen Qing hope that maybe, this meant something more to her.
Luo Qingyang tucked a piece of hair behind Wen Qingâs ear, the touch grounding and intoxicating. âWhatâre you waiting for?â
She was so close that it was easy, pulling her in and kissing her. Wen Qingâs hands rested on Luo Qingyangâs hips and for the moment, she could let all her fear and anger at the world fade until it was just the pleasure of the moment.
[âŠ]
âYou donât trust Mianmian?â Wei Wuxianâs brow furrowed. âWhy not? I can have her stay with me, keep an eye on her if you think she might cause harm.â
A flash of jealousy shot through her, so at odds with what she was trying to get across. âNo, Iâd ratherâŠâ She trailed off. What would she rather? Have Luo Qingyang share her little room? Her little bed?
Wei Wuxian was watching with his rare patience that he saved only for those he truly cared about. It could be hard to bear the weight of everything that existed between the two of them. She owed him the full truth.
âItâs complicated,â Wen Qing said, which felt like such an understatement. âShe and I⊠While we were all at the Cloud Recesses, she and I had a⊠connection.â
Wei Wuxianâs eyebrows shot up and it didnât take him long to connect the dots. âWait, you were together?â He tutted, looking absent. âAh, poor Lan Zhan. He likes her you know.â
Of all the things she had expected him to say, that was not one. She couldnât let that go without a response. âYou think Young Master Lan likes Luo Qingyang?â
Wei Wuxian blinked back. âYes?â
She raised his hand to threaten him, and Wei Wuxian dodged easily. âYouâre an idiot. Lan Wangji having romantic affection for any woman is less likely than the chance I sleep with your brother. And I think you know the odds on that.â
âEw! Why would you put it like that,â Wei Wuxian dramatically clutched at his chest, before narrowing his eyes at her as the key part of what she said sank in. âHold on, Lan Zhan-â
âYes,â she cut him off. âThis is not important right now. If you hadnât figured this out, thatâs on you. We need to talk about this ex-Jin cultivator you let in.â
âI trust Mianmian!â Wei Wuxian protested, his indignity bringing him back to the task. He still looked slightly dazed. âAnd she trusts me.â
âYou really think she knew nothing about what was going on in the camps?â Wen Qing asked, the words acidic in her mouth. She was poking her own wound, one she thought never would have to confront.
âYes,â Wei Wuxian straightened, then moved towards her. He reached out a hand, resting it on her shoulder. âDo you think Mianmian would just standby if she had known?â
Wen Qing didnât push him off, though she didnât want to acknowledge how much she needed the comfort. âI donât know what to believe anymore.â
âTrust me then,â Wei Wuxian said. âYou know how much we need the help.â
âAnd if she is a spy?â Wen Qing had to ask.
âThen Iâll deal with it.â Wei Wuxianâs tone was final, taking on the potential burden. His face did soften into worry. âDid she hurt you? When you parted?â
Wen Qing shook her head. âIf anything, I probably hurt her. You know what I was dealing with.â
After a moment of silence as Wei Wuxian nodded, he asked, âCan she stay? It would be good to have another cultivator, besidesâŠâ
He trailed off and she wasnât going to finish for him. Right now it was just her. Wen Ning and Wei Wuxian had their power but⊠Wen Qing looked away. âFine. Yes, she can stay.â

Wen Qing now saw Luo Qingyang every day. And it wasnât like she could avoid her, given how small the Burial Mounds truly were. She was working on the far corner of one of the fields when Luo Qingyang appeared beside her.
âNeed some help with that?â Luo Qingyang smiled, and gestured to the rock Wen Qing was trying to dig out.
Wen Qing didnât have any reason to refuse. âAlright.â
Luo Qingyang knelt in the dirt at her side, hands digging in the soil, brushing against Wen Qingâs own as they tried to find the bottom of the stone. It was silent, and as much as Luo Qingyang seemed comfortable to let that rest, Wen Qing found she couldnât.
âYou shouldnât have let Wei Wuxian buy potatoes,â was the first thing to come out. Which was a great start⊠being as prickly as her needles, as a-Ning had once joked.
Luo Qingyang didnât seem to notice her tone, just laughing at her words. âOh, itâll be fine, now that we have some chickens. We can be a little frivolous.â
Wen Qing was surprised by the use of âweâ. It had only been nine days since Luo Qingyang began to live with them.
Luo Qingyang picked up her sword, putting the sheath under the rock, getting enough leverage to finally shake it loose. âWe can use this on the pen for the pigs.â
âPractical,â Wen Qing said, and she hoped Luo Qingyang knew it for the compliment it was.
From her smile, she did. She hefted the rock and Wen Qing tried not to admire her shoulders. âPass me my sword?â
Wen Qing picked it up, placing it to balance on the rock. âThank you for your help.â
âThatâs what Iâm here to do.â Luo Qingyangâs tone reminded Wen Qing once more of their stolen summer moments before they were on opposite sides of a war. Wen Qing wanted to believe her, as she watched the woman move back across the camp.

âI donât blame you,â Wen Qing murmured. The night was cool, the stars could be seen through the reaching trees as she and Luo Qingyang sat watch. The camp around was preparing for sleep, noises of conversations, closing doors, and other evening rituals a calming background.
Wen Qing didnât know if Luo Qingyang had heard her, until she said, âI never blamed you either. We were caught on opposite sides of power-hungry men who cared for no one but themselves.â She let out a sigh.
Wen Qing looked towards her, to find Luo Qingyang was already focused on her, not the stars. The evening felt a little warmer under her scrutiny.
âCan we start again?â Luo Qingyang asked.
âNo,â Wen Qing said, but reached out to rest her hand on Luo Qingyangâs so she wasnât misunderstood. âBut we can try and build something new on top of the old.â
Luo Qingyang tangled their fingers together. âIâll put in work for that.â The words were a promise, and Wen Qing knew she would fight to keep it.
