Even though the yoga practice is a serious pursuit of spiritual realization, that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun while you practice. Humor is a wonderful tool that lightens the burden of intensity, but be sure to understand that the practice is not a joke or a performance. Embodying the mix between seemingly contradictory forces is one of the demonstrations that the practice is working, seeing beyond dichotomous, thinking into the nuanced subtleties of the inner world, comes with years of experience. There are some things that just can’t be rushed. In the meanwhile, keep practicing, and remember to have a little fun sometimes too. Patience and faith support one another, like two pillars in a strong foundation. If you believe in something, there is faith. But faith is tested by time and sometimes we lose faith, not because what we believe isn’t true, but because we don’t have enough patience to wait for it. Other times we are willing to wait but have no faith. Belief gives us energy and enthusiasm. When faith is gone, we lose focus, feel lost and give up. What appears simple is not always so. What we think will happen isn’t always what happens. Flexibility is in the mind, in how we respond to situations as much if not more than flexibility is in the body. If the mind is stiff, what does it matter if the body bends? Resilience is the ability to recover from difficulty quickly, like grace and grit. We practice resilience each time we face a challenge in our practice and train our response to that challenge to be equanimous and calm.
