There are many reasons to love Guillermo Del Toro, but one in particular struck me today - despite creating films in a genre which might lead an artist to retreat and remain a mystery, he is not an enigma. He is a person who exudes earnestness and openness, and is eager to share his innermost thoughts and feelings with the world. The current of meaning in his films is highly accessible and understandable - there’s no “deeper message” to be cracked, because the message is profoundly and vulnerably displayed for the audience to immediately grasp. I find this so incredibly beautiful.
