Since I did it for Nailah and her monsties, I’ll flesh out all of Nina’s monsties’ personalities!
Ratha (Rathalos) : As ride or die as any monstie can be, he is incredibly loyal, though all of Nina’s monsties can be described as that. He’s actually a lot more playful than most would expect, oftentimes joining his rider in whatever silly shenanigans she’s up to, or aiding in them. He pretty much matches her mood perfectly— when she’s upset, he is. When she’s happy, he also is. He’s like a brother to her. He shares a brotherly bond with and looks up to Blue. His flames are hot enough to burn down the sky itself for his rider.
Blue (Velocidrome) : Her first official monstie, Blue is incredibly protective of Nina. When he senses she’s in danger, he is quick to immediately rush the enemy to get them away from her. He has a rather serious personality, always vigilant and watching out for her and the other monsties. It is very hard to gain Blue’s trust, as he wants to always look out for his rider. He and Ratha share a brotherly bond. In battle, Blue’s speed and precision is unparalleled, a living bullet.
Taffy (Zamtrios) : A very laid back soul, Taffy enjoys napping and lazily floating in the water with Nina lying atop her. Not much can faze this monstie, as she’s very “go with the flow”. Her mellow nature helps in moments where Nina gets overstimulated, as she tends to just lay down next to her and gently nudge her side so she knows she’s there. In battle, however, Taffy is a force to be reckoned with. Her breath can freeze even the sea itself.
Mini (Black Diablos) : A hotheaded monstie befitting the hot desert that she originated from. Mini is actually very small for a Diablos, hence the name, but what she lacks in size she makes up for with unending confidence and a temper that would make a Rajang blush. She has so much energy and is almost constantly found burrowing and charging something. This fickle monstie is often found wrestling with her fellow teammates, or even her own rider! She has a one-sided rivalry with Beef. This impatience and wild behavior is only exacerbated by her newly gifted dragon element— tearing open the earth shrouded in draconic might.
Ketchup (Kecha Wacha) : An unsurprisingly goofy and playful monstie, Ketchup is also a curious sort, and he LOVES playing little pranks. It isn’t uncommon that he will snatch something with his trunk and scamper off into the trees to turn it around in his hands, investigating it. He also likes to steal small objects that would be somewhat irritating to be missing, such as only one sock, or the toothpaste but not the tooth brush. He has an unrequited crush on Mustard. In battle, Ketchup is incredibly hard to predict and pin down, often swinging or slashing from unexpected angles.
Mustard (Rajang) : Nina’s youngest monstie, Mustard is extremely friendly, often greeting monsters and humans alike with bone-crushing hugs. She loves attention and often tries to push herself into her rider’s lap or lay on her back to get belly scratches. Mustard loves carrying Nina around on her back and just taking calming strolls wherever they are. She has a close bond with all of her teammates, and even sees Blue as a role model. In battle, Mustard is agile and brutal, embodying the speed and power of lightning itself.
Beef (Arzuros) : This old, scarred, Gold Crown Arzuros was the same monster that raised Nina. When she finally found him again, he officially became a part of her team. Beef is aloof, oftentimes going off and doing his own thing for an unspecified amount of time, then coming back with paws full of honey that he will only share with Nina. He is protective of Nina, and will not hesitate to growl and roar at anyone he does not approve of— but he also will not hesitate to grab Nina and drag her away from situations he does not deem as safe or acceptable. In battle, Beef is ruthless, throwing around his weight and rending through enemies with little thought.
So that’s pretty much it! Yes these are my actual monsties I used for my replay of Stories 1. I ended up giving Nina my one braincell when it comes to naming her monsties— though let’s be honest, it isn’t surprising at all that she named her monsties these things, is it?
