And why was it allowed to trigger a battle before I could even move my character! I swear to god the enemies in this game are so aggressive to the point of it being unreasonable. Is this why running from battle is guaranteed (from what I've encountered) because shit like this can happen!.

Stories 2 made a lot of quality of life improvements to the gameplay from the first game, the biggest of them being the combat system. Monsters having consistent patterns instead of throwing out random attacks is amazing and makes things far less infuriating, having multiple weapon options in battle makes things a lot more dynamic and fun, but there is one really big aspect of 2's combat that can be really annoying to deal with.
I'm just gonna rip the bandaid off and say it's the fact that if your partner character looses all of their hearts you lose the battle, that's what I'm talking about. Doesn't matter if you've still got most of your hearts or if the fight was going really well, if your partner character goes down they take the whole team with them. It's especially bad with rider partners because that means you have to manage two additional health bars on top of your own. For me personally I always stuck with either reverto or kyle as my partners once I hit post game becauseof this, yes it is less damage compared to the rider partners, but at least it's only one extra health bar i need to worry about.
