Rewind to Week 16 - Silhouette Photography

Under the Pier - Been a bit busy with work this week, and the weather’s not great either, so I didn’t get out taking pictures, but I did manage to send some films off to be developed. So this is kind of new for this week.

Shot with a Pentax ‘Zoom 70-S’ (an AF compact zoom from around 1988) found in a charity shop, on 400asa BW film. The intention was to achieve a bold black and white silhouetted image and I think I’ve achieved that here. Attempting all these challenges with a digital camera has given me some knowledge and skills to start playing around with film and cheap second hand cameras. It feels like such a big decision pressing that shutter button, wondering if you’ve thought it all through properly and then not knowing until the postman arrives.

Challenge 22 - Day Off

A proper day off is one where I can escape from people and commitments and enjoy a few hours alone outdoors unwinding and sometimes taking photos. 

Here I’m enjoying a Bank Holiday Monday away from the crowds and all that Brexit nonsense somewhere near Dolgellau.

This week’s day off was spent roaming around abandoned slate quarries in the mist and drizzle. Recent rains have left the hills waterlogged and in the valley muffled by low clouds the only sounds were those of the countless cascades, streams and waterfalls draining the land.

Challenge 15 - Nature

The weather’s definitely improving here in mid-Wales, perfect for getting outdoors and mucking around with old cameras. I went hunting for nice bokeh situations with the lens off an old Zenit on my AE1 and realised that you could also capitalise on the unsharpness at the edges of the frame to produce a sort of blurry tunnel leading into the centre of the image. 

Not a perfect picture, more an idea still in development.
